Ainz is at level cap, he can't get any stronger except by changing up his gear. And he's in a world with shit gear, except the few world items strewn here and there. I'm sure he'd love to collect those, but they're not easy to find.
So all he can do to become more effective is modify his tactics and use his mind.

if we want to go by canon video game mechanics then it always deals more hp than their max, so it would instakill him too, but that also only works because the people you backstab are alive. he's a skeleton and there's nothing the spy could even backstab. if we're also going by vsh, then backstabs don't instakill but deal a lot of damage

Momonga believed his build was shit and his PvP skill was low, but the dude has no self-esteem and he actually is very strong, just not the strongest.
A random build coming at him would get absolutely trashed because he has extremely extensive game knowledge and a strategic mind when it comes to fights.
But someone who also knows the meta, and built for the meta, will still beat him because he went niche. But in game terms that's not "a maxed MMORPG character" that's "top grandmaster players".

He's running a roleplaying build but specializes in instant death attacks. Also if you have no way of negating time stop magic you're fucked.
