What year was the peak of the PS1 or simply the PS as it was originally called? I'd say for me personally it was somewhere around 1996-1998
What year was the peak of the PS1 or simply the PS as it was originally called...
I want to say something rude to you but I don't know what.
It was never called the PS, before PS1 it was called PSX.
It shouldn't be called that now because the PSX is a distinct PS2 product, but it was once called that.
1998 is the best year video games have ever had, and that certainly holds true for PS1 as well.
>before PS1 it was called PSX
Nobody in the west called it the PSX.
Everyone and their mom called it the PSX zoom zoom
>before PS1 it was called PSX.
It was just called PlayStation you nigger
Nice headcanon, gook.
There are absolutely game magazines where it was called that.
98 to 99. The first 75% of Playstations life is trash.
Playstation peak was 1997 - 1999.
PSX was just it's codename. Only the biggest nerds called it that, but everyone else just referred to it simply as the Playstation or PS1 later.
see
The fact that people just try to play this off like it didnt happen just shows me how malleable the past is.
You are retarded.
The peak of a console generally comes toward the end of its lifecycle. So right when PS2 was being put forward is where you'll generally find peak PS1.
>he first 75% of Playstations life is trash.
not really, no.
1997-1998
Wrong, 2001 is synonym with western shit, 2000 wasn't that great of a year either.
I don't disagree, I never heard anyone use PSX in conversation. But it was used.
1996-2000, the start was a little rough but by the time crash bandicoot hit there was already a solid library and more to come. Once it hit its stride and left the Saturn behind, the N64 stood no chance. It was every month there was new and excellent games coming out. Playstation Underground was showing off demos for new games you could get every month, and you'd get a new demo cd in the next month. Meanwhile the competition had just a handful of games for the year. It wasn't until after the PS2 came out that the console slowed down, even then it still got titles worth playing. Since most of Zig Forums doesn't know non-nintendo titles, particularly playstation ones beyond Mega Man, Final Fantasy, Metal Gear Solid and Silent Hill you won't find much intelligent input here.
1998, like with everything else in vidya.
In general you cannot go wrong with any year between 1996-99; it was the peak of the gaming's golden era.
My local, Nordic gaming mags always called it "PSX". It only changed into "PS1" when PS2 came out.
If only because you were restricted to D-pad movement in a 3D space, absolutely yes.
The first game I played on PS2 was Megaman Legends 2, which came out only two days prior in the US. It was certainly peak PS1.
A good one, there's lots of great games up there with MML2.
Ah yes one game defines the library
D-pad hating zoomers are hilarious, the dual shock was more or less worthless for your information.
>the dual shock was more or less worthless for your information.
No, quite a few games utilize it well. I think the best examples are Love & Destroy and obviously Ape Escape.
No faggot, it was called the playstation.
PSX was the code name.
It's pathetic that it stuck in certain parts, especially after the actual name got announced, when the PS2 was announced and PS1 became that abreviation, EVEN moreso when a PS2 was launched called the PSX.
Tha't show fucking retarded you look.
Not only are you calling a console by it's pre launch code name
You are calling it the wrong fucking console, PSX is a playstation 2.
>B-but everyone called it that
Guess fucking what? Everyone was wrong and you're all retards.
Now go play your Nintendo NX or Xbox Anaconda faggot.
A few games utilize it period
A few hundred, yes
Is this copypasta? I mention the PSX being a PS2 in my fucking post, dude.
1999-2000
You had insane 1998 lineup plus Final Fantasy VIII, Resident Evil 3 in 1999 and Final Fantasy IX, GT2 in 2000
