Star Trek Online

I'm back in this shit again to scratch the MMO itch. Tried coming back to eve but damn the spreadsheet simulator is hard to have FUN in anymore.

Anyone still playing this? The social aspect of this "mmo" is lacking without a fleet, and would rather not join up with a bunch of faggots if possible.

TLDR for below: good game, you should try it. Let whales pay for the game, pay nothing and enjoy it.

If you really have never tried this it's worth consuming the single player content, especially if your a star trek fan, and outside of STD, it's the only source of new star trek. A lot of it is voice acted by as much of the original casts as they can get their hands on, and the storyline is pretty good.

Despite being free to play, I don't really have a massive problem the way it's set up. You never have to buy anything; and if you do your going to pay for it. After you hit max level upgrading your shit (and the time that takes) is the primary game, and if you want to shortcut yourself by throwing massive amounts of money at it you certainly can and bankrupt yourself, but it really won't matter; it's not EVE, P2P is almost non-existent, your not getting massive advantages.

The rate at which you can collect shit without paying a dime is fine and so is the grind. If you want to buy the latest 3D model for $90 every two weeks that's on you, otherwise actually grinding something you want is somewhat rewarding.

Compared to any other MMO, this is the only one I keep coming back to. Maybe because I'm a star trek fan, but the new content (episodes), keeps the game fresh and breaks up the monotony. It's like playing an episode instead of watching one.

Shameless first/last bump:
Do anons have no interest for this game anymore?

(though i don't think user's ever held much interest)

I had no idea they were making content still
I just remember hearing the misison creator was dead then stopped playeing

I stopped playing when they added STD crap. Not gonna encourage CBS to crap on me and tell me I'm a nazi for not liking it. If Cryptic suffers as a result, at least corporate will realize STD doesn't sell.

I played this heavily when it was still populated. Tried it again like 6 months ago and it just felt dead. PvP queue almost never popped.

it's still alive as ever.
haven't been back long but the new content seems to be rolling out as fast as ever.
loosing the mission creator was dumb, but really, how often did you play those foundry missions? I never made one either.

I don't watch STD at all. My logic used to be similar but it's been like 10 years; this is the only star trek content were getting, and it's an MMO. Actually spending money is a different story, I'm consuming content and putting load on their servers if anything I'm costing them money.

CBS isn't exactly in control of this either, I thought the chinks were lol.

PvP was never a real thing in this game. You kind of have to make your own multiplayer content here. It isn't EVE, but that's why I made the thread.

I was only looking into it to play after I heard they removed foundry when I was looking for an mmo that would on mac

Is there enough content without having to rely on groups to get say 10 hours a week out of

>CBS isn't in control
Yeah, not the day to day, but they cut Jem'Hadar/DS9 arc halfway through to focus on adding more STD content to the game at CBS's direction.

I would rather have no Star Trek at all (aside from my DVDs and blurays) than have to see any more of CBS and Klutzman's abomination.

>PvP was never a real thing in this game. You kind of have to make your own multiplayer content here.
The fuck are you talking about? There was pvp at launch from like lvl 10 or something. PvP queues popped almost as soon as you joined one. It was great fun.

Until you got to endgame and the pvp kinda fell apart balance wise.

Wish this shit would die so they can work on Champions Online and make it better

I liked it, wish they didn't remove the foundry tho...

Ya, the story/episode content alone is probably 100 hours. If you've never played or haven't in a while it'll take you a month to advance through all that anyway, if you care about the story.
If you speed through it, can be done a lot faster.
If they're using the Star Trek IP they've gotta comply, and ultimately the Chinese just want to make money, but in the process the game itself is stable. Morally I can just ignore the in-game STD content, clickthrough all the bs/story and never play it again.
In a way you can protest in that way; they have the telemetry on this, they know what content people are playing and using and I like to think the STD content despite all their money going to it is rarely played, and they can see it.

>PvP queues popped almost as soon as you joined one
10 years ago?
I think the star trek branding is a little stronger

The existing in-game Zig Forums fleet is dead, been joining the same one coming back on and off for like 5 years I think lol.

I'm gonna remake a vidya trek fleet, maybe post occasional threads to gauge interest. Atleast then experience the fleet side of the game too, whatever content is there.

The requirements seem to be simple:
but I'm gonna need help from anons here:
"
with each member meeting any ONE of the following
-Has 20 hours cumulative playtime across all characters
-Has ever had a Subscription
-Has ever had a Zen balance
-Has ever made a purchase from the Zen Store
"

If you've ever played at all you'll meet the first two right off the bat, all I really need is
5 ANONS TOGETHER AT ONCE

I still play the game, on and off, but cutting the season focusing on DS9 and the Gamma Quadrant short so that they can do content focusing on STD hurt my interest in the game quite a bit. Then again they have FINALLY given me a T6 Klingon carrier, so that got me back a bit.
I just wish they hadn't removed the Foundry, the fan-created missions, whilst of lower production value than the game's own, were often quite a bit more interesting.

im down to come back and play. I took a year off

got 3 online right now; get 3 more user's in game and online can create the fleet.

i'll give permissions to whoever actually wants to join this, so people can actually see what the fleet side of it is and manage shit, everyone should be able to manage it; can restrict later if it's a problem and these are just big in-game currency sinks anyway,.

The game has unfortunately been put in charge of a dude whose background is mobile games, so the RMT gambling bullshit has really gone on steroids in the past year and a half of the game's life. "Legendary" Bundles that cost hundreds of dollars, for example.

currently patching

I gave this game a go and enjoyed how far in the single player story I got but the community seemed dead. I don't really get what exactly the multiplayer side of things is supposed to even be all about.

Actually there was already a Zig Forums / Zig Forums fleet. Fed side is called Vidya Trek, Klink side is called House of Vid'ya. It's not completely dead, and has everything developed on the Fed side at least.

Post your hot Orion babes.

Good to know, might join them when I have the time.

I'm in it now. That's where the other 2 online anons are coming from.

The argument for remaking it is nobody is at the helm. It's in a random armada and nobody has permissions to do anything. The new fleet I'll hand out full permissions so it can actually be managed, and if I'm gonna play for a while actually try to recruit user's occasionally, post a thread once in a while.

If everyone who cares gets full permissions you can see that side of the game completely, that much more content. As far as actually advancing the thing, you just do that for fleet credits. The plan is to join an armada shortly after, a random one maybe at first. Randoms can fill currency sinks we don't want to fill.

If you want to buy fleet shit while it's advancing, if everyone has full permissions in this fleet, and add your alts, whatever; you can drop out, use reddits bullshit or something to buy the ship or what your looking at, and then add yourself back in.

Alternatively while it's starting out if there's something you want you can get from the Zig Forums fleet, there is that aspect of the game. tell someone and we'll direct it towards that and help you get the shit or something.

INSTRUCTIONS
(to create this fleet)

when you get in game join
"Zig Forums" chat channel, there's 4 other online user's right now in it.

Whichever character your on, try to be in this channel. When there are 5 anons, we can create this fleet. We will organize from this channel.

maybe ask on the trek thread on /tg/. I know they talk about STO over there sometimes.

we have 4 now ready to go,
WE NEED ONE MORE user

hi rummy, hi alex. it's teryl

I read the OPs.
Peak goy. Its hilarious. Cute he likes the game but they seem the type to forgive anything just to consoom

The gear treadmill is just too transparent now. Tedious grind with multiple progress bars, just so you can add another Mark to your gear for a small bonus.

And all the storylines are just terrible. It doesn't help that gameplay itself is just a relic from the MMO graveyard. Go here, collect these, go there, activate this, kill mobs in between. Beyond the ships, and actors cashing a quick paycheck, it doesn't even feel like Star Trek.

havent played in like 5 years. did they ever make it where you can promote your officers to captain and have them command your mothballed ships with you? that would be neat.

Nope. You're still a Fleet Admiral in command of a single ship, handle every situation personally, and get talked down by every lower rank NPC you encounter.

alright then
we did it reddit.
