Is it the greatest roguelike ever created?

Not even a roguelike.

I don't know about any of that but it is a fun game.

Yes.

only rebirth, fuck the expansions

Yes. Hurry up steakmund

Haven't played that shit since rebirth, I'm not sure I want to get repentance when it's out, it's way too addictive

No.

probably

Stop posting and finish repentance already steakmund

It's good but all the excess items make getting fun combos harder

why is it that isaac is one of the more flawed games in the genre
but also the most replayable?

not even close to a roguelike

Not a roguelike, but even with all of its flaws it's still my favorite roguelite. Big part of that are the synergies between items, I don't know any game that does it better.

Based FTL Chad
Is it weird that I loved using the fire laser on enemies and watching them scurry around trying to put out the fires and finally giving up an taking shelter in the medbay as they're running out of oxygen?

Should a roguelike/lite have items that are straight up shit and have no synergy with anything else? This always bothered me about Isaac

I may have been edging during this.

These are roguelites.

Play cogmind for a fun, newish roguelike

I can't wait to fuck around with fire when I FINALLY UNLOCK THAT COCKSUCKING MOTHERFUCKING ROCK B GODDAMNIT I HATE RESETTING LOOKING FOR A SHIP WITH A FUCKING DEFENSE DRONE OR GOD FORBID I GET AN EARLY TP AND FIRE WEAPON JESUS SHIT

Yes.

It is done intentionally to make the good items feel better. It sounds like shit, but if everything is a strict upgrade that works like everything then the items lose a lot if interest I feel. Like how boons in Hades don't feel good

I don't mean strict upgrades. I just mean that even the "worst" items should have some niche synergy.

definitely has the most variety. like every run feels just different enough to be fresh, compared to something like FTL or StS where after 30 runs everything starts feeling samey

are there other games that feel fresh with each run?

I think it's cooler if the shit items are actually situationaly useful or have some kind of crazy obscure synergy or galaxy brain line of play, Slay the Spire is good about that I find.

Hades

I got fed up with the shit pulled with Afterbirth originally, did it get any better?

Afterbirth+ made it even worse, but Repentance is on the horizon and seeks to implement a lot of QoL changes.

Dead cells blows it out of the water

It was the only roguelite I enjoyed for a good while, so yes. It does a lot right, but still has some flaws, like some items being excessively great or awful, making it more dumb-luck based.

Extreme variety between runs.

I wish the game speed was faster and it didn't turn into a completely unbalanced mess after Rebirth.
It's enjoyable, but there are roguelites with much better gameplay out there by now.

are there other games that feel fresh with each run?
dungeons of dredmor was like this for me, but it's both turn based and just plain worse than isaac. very charming game, though.

>the more you progress the less fun the game is
no, this game design philosophy is fucking dogshit and edmund has his head so far up his ass

fpbp

There's no roguelike like Rogue, and Castle of the Winds is the best Rogue-like.

Just stop breaking the game and get good faggot

i'm very good, but having nothing but shit items while you're slogging through the game isn't a test of skill

just play the base rebirth bro

whats the difference between the original and the rebirth? Is it a remake or a sequel?

remake sequel

at that point most people just hold "R" until they get an item room where the first item gives them enough momentum to stomp the rest of the run

you lost me
