Is gaming a bad thing?
>games are fundamentally a waste of time and money
>video games provide zero real-world benefits
>microtransactions cause people to waste hundreds of dollars on worthless digital items
>gaming is addictive and habit-forming
>online multiplayer games have no end, just keep playing to increase your rank forever
>thousands of people waste time practicing to become a pro esports gamer or streamer
>thousands of autists waste their talents on speedrunning and hacking old NES games instead of making useful programs
>many PC gamers haven't even played more than 25% of their Steam library, literally wasting money
>video games divert attention away from useful recreation activities (archery, shooting, woodworking, horse-riding, etc.)
>millions of kids have ruined their academics due to gaming instead of studying
Were our parents right?
All of these points can be replaced with any other form of entertainment retard
No other form of entertainment is as accessible and addictive as video games
How many people do you know addicted to reading books?
Addicted to watching movies?
this picture...makes me wish the entire voice cast of the simpsons would all simultaneously die painless, peaceful deaths so it can FINALLY BE ENDED, JUST FUCKING END IT!
I mean if you probably hadn't been looped into video games you'd have a wife and a kid now, or a brain that was fucked by over-stimulation from coomer designs that were everywhere in gaming in the past.
So yea, your parents were right.
Because none of those things have a reward component. You don't get rewarded for completing a book. Gaming has that.
What it would really be analogous to is something like gambling.
You're describing a hobby user.
>no other form of entertainment Is as accessible
Come on
Are books and television harder to get than pc's and consoles, not even mentioning those 20-60$ games?
Are you even trying?
>teehee I just accidentally 2 seasons of Dumbass TV Show #487
>games are fundamentally a waste of time and money
As any hobby is. For digital hobbies and the latter, piracy.
>video games provide zero real-world benefits
There have been multiple scientific researches that prove that video games help your reaction times, critical thinking, and memory.
>MTX
Gambling addiction and it crops up everywhere.
>gaming is addictive and habit-forming
Only if you let it get that bad.
>online MP
Not sure about you, but Multiplayer having an ending like a campaign would not be... as fun.
>esports garbage
That's on them and they get money.
>speedruns and ROM hacks
They make useful programs to peek and poke the game to help them out.
>steam library
Idiots can't appreciate the money they have, and usually waste it all on sales. Not my prblem.
>recreation
Recreation is activities that don't actively do anything of use. I'm sure as shit not gonna shoot someone with arrows or ride around town on a horse just because I do archery or horse-riding.
>academia
School system is shit, and there's no deyning that.
>archery, shooting, woodworking, horse-riding
>useful
Such a good bait, and then you expose yourself like this.
Is television a bad thing?
>TV is fundamentally a waste of time and money
>TV provides zero real-world benefits
>per episode transactions on top of multiple digital streaming fees cause people to waste hundreds of dollars on worthless digital items
>TV is addictive and habit-forming
>TV series have no end, just keep watching to see if they actually finish that dumbass multiple season plotline
>thousands of people waste time practicing to become the next big tv star
>thousands of autists waste their talents on speedrunning and hacking old NES games instead of making useful programs
alright, you can have that one
>many PC gamers haven't even played more than 25% of their Steam library, literally wasting money
that one too
>TV divert attention away from useful recreation activities (archery, shooting, woodworking, horse-riding, etc.)
>millions of kids have ruined their academics due to watching tv instead of studying
video games are far more popular and earn more revenue than Netflix shit
If you ask a kid/teen if they'd rather play an awesome game or watch Netflix, they'd game
How is woodworking useless?
Ever heard of Etsy? Ebay?
This episode is a hate crime against gamers.
>television is a good thing because kids are teh epic gamerz
>source: my ass
That would be sculpting. Woodworking is the art to cut down tree and make it into various usable pieces like planks, plates or other shapes.
>video games are cooler than tv
Everyone here knows this already; what's your point?
Most of them. Apparently Lisa's voice actor is a completely insufferable bitch that most of the Simpsons crew hates.
the amount of normies addicted to netflix ffs man
>millions of kids have ruined their academics due to gaming instead of studying
Ain't that truth chief
Did hardcore gaming ruin your reading comprehension too? When did I say Netflix was good?
>How many people do you know addicted to reading books?
Every teenager girl that can’t enough gay vampires sparkling in the sun.
Do you really lack that much human contact?
Have you been living under a rock for the past 7 years?
The YA fiction craze died a few years back
Did hardcore netflix binge watching ruin your ability to make a coherent argument? I implied that mind numbing entertainment (and its dangers) has been around long before video games. You came back with this gem
>hurr durr vidya make more money so more bad
Your response was so pants on head retarded that I saw absolutely no need to give a serious reply, as you're obviously incapable of understanding it without me taking 3 seasons to walk you through it.
But I did stoop to your level, and for that I apologize
So? You travel the world, you work a well paid job, you watch shit on TV, you learn an instrument. And you die. You just die and it's all gone. Nobody gives a shit how many money you made when you're gone. And you don't get anything from your fancy skills once you're in a coffin. Just do what you enjoy Anons, not what others tell you what you have to do.
don quijote is a whole book on the dangers of book addiction
50 shades of retard is still flying of the shelves at a frighting degree. And trashy literature for teenagers is as present as ever, it only got somewhat usurped by the Japanese. Believe you me moral retard, you’re having this argument with a person who works on a fucking library!
>>millions of kids have ruined their academics due to gaming instead of studying
That is the fault of the parents.
I'm lazy enough to watch a show when I don't feel like playing a game. Still addicted to the box.
my feelz lack irl friends to relate too
>no
>wrong
>yes, addiction is bad, treat as a hobby not a fucking ecstsy
>made you understand the important of selfcontrol
>is it fun? then keep grinding. isn't fun anymore and time wasted? stop.
>is competing against other fun for you? rewarding after you beat your opponent? wanna keep doing it over and over? or it is just for fame?
>autistic person play inside their own head
>don't waste your money unless it's a masterpiece on your opinions you had blast and could afford it
>pool is fun, some user out there is legit in illegal street race at night and play skyrim with sexlab installed during the day
>you have unlimited time for gaming, you have limited time to got your education right.. well unless you want to waste most of your 20's
I mean you say that, but I've spent more money and time reading shitty fantasy novels. And its not like they've given any value to my life either.
Same could be said about moviefags, or pretty much any hobby. You do hobbies because you have time to kill and find them interesting. They don't really enrich or better your life in any way other than providing entertainment.
Honestly speaking video games is my only form of socialization with people I work with. I'm not into hiking or shit, so I don't do that with any of them. But we can all enjoy playing a few hours of CoD every few weekends. Sure its CoD, but hanging out with people is nice.
of course I'm joking, I hear coworkers talking about it but I've never been invited once despite talking about the game with them and hinting I want to join
>Gaming twitchfags and YTers are making millions
No they should have supported us
Sometimes I stay up until 4:00am getting lost in a Wikipedia rabbit hole.
You know you can make money with your gameplay as well, right? You do know streamers and youtubers exist, right?
I remember getting a game every year for Christmas all growing up. I sometimes would get them for Easter or my birthday as a kid, but by the time I was in high school it was just Christmas because I was able to start buying stuff on my own. My parents never asked questions. They didn't care that I would jump on the family computer at 9:00 sharp every night and not get off till everyone else went to bed, somewhere around midnight or 1am. They didn't care that I had a computer in my room at some point and would just play games or download porn. They never asked questions. But I remember one year there was no new game coming out that I wanted, so I asked my parents to buy me Sonic Adventure 2 because I wanted to check it out. I was up till 3:00 a.m. every night for a solid long weekend over that holiday break just trying to 100% that game and I remember one morning my mom came In my room and flipped the fuck out that I was still playing this game that I didn't even want. She gave me the whole screaming match argument that video games were a crutch, I was a loser, if she knew better she would have thrown it out when I wasn't looking a long time ago... The whole nine yards. That was my senior year of high school. ended up going to college and still playing video games, but it became more secretive. I'm still embarrassed about it, and hide my video games from everyone. I barely get time to play them anyway. I understand where my mother was coming from, even then I did. But I have felt such immense shame that I enjoy this hobby for the past 15 years. My wife isn't into games, my kids are too little to care, and all my adult friends who still play spend tons of money and time on a hobby that I'm embarrassed about. I think it's one of my biggest regrets. I shouldn't have let it get to me. I should have been a fucking man, fixed my life, and kept the hobby alive rather than burying it like a fucking mistress. It eats at my fucking soul everyday.
I was addicted to books.
Partially because it was the only thing my parents would buy for me.
>What the fuck do you mean you want a $10 beyblade? Stupid ass kid I'm not buying you toys
>$300 worth of books once a month? Sure no problem. Here's my credit card.
Still makes me laugh, one time during the school bookstore I bought a copy of frogger (or some knock off) which was like $5, in addition to like $200 worth of books. And my mom beat the shit out of me for it. Literally not even 3% of the cost of these shitty books.
