Splinter Cell

Which of these are worth it?

Chaos Theory is the best one without a shadow of a doubt!
Never played the first one but I suspect it pales in comparison to the third one, although the 3rd does reference the 1st in terms of story but doesn't really change much.
DA was a bit meh I found. They reworked the stealth meter so it's basically green or yellow, and I never worked out whether you were visible or not in yellow, sometimes you were, sometimes you weren't. Also, I liked to try and play the games total ghost like, without even alerting anyone and that's not possible in this. That said it was alright.
Conviction and Blacklist take a massive swerve from the main series. Stealth is still there but to me, it never felt like the game was designed primarily around that like it was in CT. Also, with the money to spend upgrading your guns it does seem like the emphasis is more on combat.
I'd talk about MP, but desu I suspect all servers are dead and I don't know if there's unofficial servers available. That said, I always thought DA MP was pretty good. Blacklist was okay as well and it had a decent loadout selection as well where you could decide whether to be more combat focused or stealth orientated but again, I think the servers are all dead.

All of them except Blacklist

1-3 and double agent are all excellent.
Never played blacklist and no intention to do so.

to be honest all of them are pretty good. chaos theory is the best. even conviction is good if you play it and pretend you're playing a licensed Jason Bourne game or something. I'd say the weakest is either Double Agent or Blacklist.

What happened to Pandora's? Licence issues?

The Xbox / PS2 version of DA is pretty much a different game than the 360 / PS3 / PC version of DA, and should be considered as the proper sequel to CT.

oh yeah, I forgot about that.

PC port doesn't work properly on modern PCs and Ubisoft removed the game instead of fixing it

the game can be fixed with fan patches though

Everything after Double Agent is irredeemable trash

I remember something being fucked up with the lockpicking or when you used a keypad or something on the PC version.

It's a cursed port
you can't play it without fan patches

The developers for Pandora Tomorrow used code for the lighting & shadows that only worked on graphics cards around when the game came out (eg. Radeon 9800). Which is a problem in a game based around hiding in shadows, especially since there's one level where you have to navigate a maze while dodging spotlights. Ubisoft decided to just never offer it for sale digitally, instead of fixing the problem.

I actually got Pandora Tomorrow with a new gfx card for my birthday when I was like 14. the game ran at sub-10fps even with the card because I was a poorfag and obviously didn't get one of the newer cards of the time. I do remember it ran buttery smooth if you put the thermals on.

Ghost Recon
that's it

Chaos Theory without a doubt. best stealth game.

The first one and Chaos Theory is you only have to pay for the "must have ones". Pandora and Double are fine i guess...Conviction...at that price is OK

Conviction is worth it at that price for the co-op campaign alone.

Blacklist is legit good when you play it on the hardest difficulty.

Blacklist is seriously not a bad game at all but I did hate how it felt like it was the developers trying to milquetoast their way into appealing to two different audiences after Conviction pissed the old fans off.

>Which of these are worth it?
Honestly, all of them minus Double Agent. (unless you've got an OG Xbox kicking around, that version of Double Agent is great)

Chaos Theory is undisputably the best, in fact i'd argue it's one of the best games to have ever been conceived, it's a technical, artistic and game design masterclass with god tier SP, CO-OP and PVP.

Splinter Cell is far more limited in scope and relies on a lot of trial and error, but it's still an absolutely fantastic experience that i'd heartily recommend if you're looking for a pure stealth experience.

Double Agent is the weakest of the lot, the PC port isn't great, the game was developed by one of Ubisofts chink B-teams, some of the prison/daytime stuff is kinda neat, but never great, honestly it's biggest contribution to gaming is having it's models ripped and used in Mafia City.

Splinter Cell Conviction, poorly fucking optimized, hobbled together from the remnants of the Rainbow Six Vegas engine, dumbed down stealth, big emphasis on combat, god tier Jason Bourne simulator but a really shit Splinter Cell game. The co-op was fantastic.

Splinter Cell Blackist, bastard child of Conviction and Double Agent design philosophy, retains all the worst aspects of Conviction (shit stealth, rail roads you through objectives, emphasis on mark/execute combat and levels designed around it), *tries* to be a more stealth orientated experience but fails miserably most of the time, has some absolutely dogshit FPS missions, around half of the game is irredeemable dogshit, but the other half is perfectly serviceable. It has one mission towards the end that i'd say is as good as Chaos Theory's worst mission.

All of them except conviction imo, first two have very trial and error gameplay but still have great atmosphere.

bought conviction on steam about a month ago because I loved it on the 360, but the controls were completely fucked.
Run was toggle only, and it wouldn't untoggle once you stopped moving, you had to switch it back manually.
so if it run was still on and you try to shoot and accidentally move, it would suck you out of aiming and put you into a full sprint.
there were some other big issues that I forgot but I tried to switch to controller hoping it would work better and I guess it only had partial support so that was fucked too.
couldn't find any fixes for these issues and had to return it.
very sad.

I remember enjoying Conviction when it came out even though it’s vastly different. I hated Blacklist when it first came out. Went back and played it again a few years ago and really enjoyed it. Going full ghost on Perfectionist difficultly with no kills was probably my proudest achievement in the series. Chaos Theory is the best one. 1st one is really good too, but the most dated. Pandora Tomorrow was fun but they don’t ever sell that one. Double Agent is the only one I never finished but I think I played the inferior version.

tl;dr: Chaos Theory > Splinter Cell > Blacklist > Conviction > Double Agent (the one I played).

Conviction is forgettable at best, and offensively terrible at worst. The Iraq level is kryptonite to fans of stealth games. If you didn't really give a fuck about Splinter Cell before playing it, you might find it enjoyable.

Chaos Theory is still the pinnacle of the series, followed closely by Pandora Tomorrow. If you have to get only one, get this.

Splinter Cell SAR suffers from controls that haven't aged well, some absolutely terrible levels (mainly thinking about Abattoir and the oil rig), and some forced firefights in a game that isn't suited to that at all, but it's still a fine game 20 years after its release. Just be sure to look up the patch online before playing it, the unpatched game's shadows are fucked and probably will make you uninstall the game out of frustration.

Don't even think about playing Double Agent on PC. This port is fucked beyond recognition, and besides, it's the worst version of DA. Play the old gen version, and even then, it's not all that great to begin with, especially when compared to Chaos Theory, which came out just before it.

Blacklist gets a lot of flak, some of it deservingly, but I like it. Playing on Perfectionist is a requirement if you want to somewhat stay in the spirit of the old games. Don't pay any attention to the story or the characters, you're better off that way.

shittiest story in the franchise and game tries too hard to be a call of duty with all those cinematic hollywood action

CT has more finely tuned mechanics, but the story is much less believable than the first game's to the point of ridiculousness (Japanese admiral thinking he can take on the US).

>to the point of ridiculousness (Japanese admiral thinking he can take on the US).

Yeah, you're right, that's never happened before.

kek same, I used thermals on almost all the time
the first was very good but I never played chaos theory, everyone saying is the best but I don't know where to play, which is the best version?
I have ps2, 3ds and pc

PC version is fine if you don't mind m+kb controls. I think there is a way to get Xbox 360/Onecontrollers working properly but you'll need to hit pcgamingwiki.

The game takes place after WW2, buddy.
