1. Graphical capabilities of a system have finally reached an equilibrium of dev costs to acceptable playability. You no longer need to spend a fortune/have a 500 person dev team to make a commercially successful game.
Development costs really held Japanese studios back in the 360/PS3 era.
2.The Japanese finally figured it out and got together with their dev teams/studios/publishers and started sharing tech/development strategies. The entire japanese gaming industry had to start huddling around the same burning barrel of garbage 10 years ago. Japanese development was really on the ropes for a while during the PS3/360 development cycles. Western studios were getting money thrown at them while Japanese games were being produced on a shoe-string with a few expectations.
3. Western dev teams are now circling the drain. Nothing exciting outside of a handful of titles every year come out of Western development studios. They waste their money on marketing, diversity hiring and virtue signaling instead of hiring talented, motivated and passionate people. The Japanese have always been great at taking other peoples ideas and making them their own.

I've noticed in Japanese games it seems like every mechanic is given a purpose and the experience is "focused". There is really only "one way" to play Resident Evil 4 or God Hand or whatever. It could be argued they "lack depth", I don't disagree, but I also don't think this is a problem.

Turn based combat would theoretically allow for battles to require well-thought-out strategies and a lot of adapting and weighting of available options, but as it stands 99.99% of them are designed to be beatable as long as you are holding the controller so excuse me if I don't see the fucking point beyond the devs being too lazy to design any fun or meaningful combat.
