DMC

Could a summoner actually work if executed right? I think we can all agree V doesn't mesh well with DMCs gameplay at all but the concept of a character that can summon familiars to add him shouldn't be scrapped.

Astral Chain is basically ''V done right''.

Never played it, how does it work?

you needed to be able to lock V or his summons in place, or give his summons more 'move-while-attacking' options.

You have a Legion that acts independent from you while you fight by yourself just like V's summons but you interract with them much more compared to V. You even use some of their abilities by yourself. Check this video as an example:

Damn, I didn't know Tomio Ogata posts here from time to time.

Looks really tedious with the constant menu popup to switch familiars.

Both Bayonetta's wicked weaves, Kratos Hades magic on God of War 3 and astral chain have summoners which work extremely well with the genre.

Best brother better

Yeah it kinda is. W101 managed to do that better imo.

So i'm going to re-iterate and add on to my summoner idea from last thread. I've taken partial inspiration from Guilty Gear characters Zato-1 and Zappa.
First off, the summoner has to have a full melee moveset on the levels of Nero.
Only one familiar can be up at a time. Sounds like a limitation but the player should have full control over the familiar this way and combat won't appear as chaotic as AI familiars just do whatever.
Familiar should a button dedicated to basic attacks while another button is dedicated to special attacks (i.e. L1+face button) and the reasoning for doing it this way instead of the staple directional inputs is because that could interfere with the players directional inputs and it would give quick access to 4 special attacks.
Should be a "unique action" button, similar to Dantes style button, that works fairly differently depending on what summon is out and even if there are no summons at all. If we use Vs familiars as an example, this would make Shadow teleport next to our summoner and for griffon it would make him shoot projectiles.

Just a thought. Literally no point considering this will never happen and summoners will likely never come to DMC again even if the concept is cool. Maybe Itsuno will do something cool with the idea for dragons dogma 2 tho.

Wicked Weaves aren't really the same thing. Hades isn't really the same either though I did think of it. Haven't played Astral Chain.

I really like V, I think he could benefit from a bit of tweaking and a few more moves but I'm more than happy with how he turned out.

I wish Dante were real so I could motorboat his pecs.

Yeah all the shitposting saying "you don't like V because you're bad as him" really doesn't make any sense because of this. I picked DMC5 back up recently to prepare for the DLC and I went straight into BP as V thinking I'd be giving myself maximum challenge to force some of the rust off, and it was mind numbingly easy to clear floors as him when I remember having issue with Nero and Dante.

No, I meant the Hades weapon in God of War 3
>Wicked Weaves aren't really the same thing.
it's canonically and gameplaywise you summoning a creature do do an attack

I know what you meant. I played it a few months ago. They're technically summons but they're only used for a single attack then they're gone.
Also just because TECHNICALLY they're "summons" doesn't mean wicked weaves are what people would want out of a summoner/familiar character

>if you use vergil's ex taunt in the dante boss fight there's a chance for AI dante to use his own

V would be improved tenfold just by making his summons not have overlapping inputs and the melee demon being the one that's airborne. Most of the frustration comes from Shadow missing or being confused while using both demons at the same time.

Footage?

anyone played chaos legion?

The fundamentals of V are already perfect, he's already a better character than DMC4 Nero was.

V only needs more mechanics and abilities.

summoner characters that don't fight WITH their summons feel like absolute shit imo

Has anyone done a remix of Silver Bullet that doesn't blueballs you after the bang bang bang? I like the remix better than the song apart from that terrible bit, I just want the devil trigger, not yet more bangs.

Yes. If done well.
Maybe hybrid with melee combat.

This is the fundamental problem with V. He needs a real moveset of his own and he doesn't need a bunch of summons at once.

Why didn't Vergil just simply look like this

V was fantastic. He ruined everyone else for me because I just wanted the game to be built around him.
