Still the best single-player game of all time.
Still the best single-player game of all time
i recommend godhand
barf
its very good of course, but the sequels build upon it and most of them are superior.
They lack the soul.
>aria lacks soul
nonsense
nah, presentation is so lacking in the mobile games, and just dont have the same quality throughout that really makes sotn exceptional. also they always seem more basic and simplistic in various ways even with different systems added
how?
Literally the worse of the 2d metroid style ones
>hit level 10
>woo no challenge left
Like there is zero fucking difficulty after Doppleganger
What are the best sequels?
I really like the design of the black haired girl with the exposed back, but her game looks bad. I wanted to play castlevania HD but its locked forever and probably not playable anymore at all.
>difficulty
who cares? its a single player game stop pretending any SP game is difficult. if you want more challenge use the name that lowers your stats and don't use soul steal like i know you do every 4 seconds
>using magic
They really don't. All of them are downgrades, just with some new gimmicks added onto them.
Except the gimmicks for the most part, made it better.
Outside of HoD, all of the games are superior
>Outside of HoD, all of the games are superior
shitty opinion. the simple fact that you're comparing grating game boy music to possibly the best game soundtrack of all time in CD quality is astoundingly gay.
>for the most part, made it better.
No. You can argue it makes them fun and unique to play from each other, it is nice how all the games feel different, but that doesn't make any of them "superior". Bloodstained actually adds onto SotN without taking away, unlike the handheld games.
>muh music
so the gameplay is now only about the music? Fascinating.
bloodstained is literally not even a castlevania game...
Good one.
It more or less is.
I don't agree that it adds anything to sotn though, it's an inferior retread in my opinion
red shards- only painting ever used in game, nothing else worth using
blue shards- used for a few puzzle gimmicks, nothing ever worth using until you get naruto run at very end of game
game has a lot of illusory complexity and sacrifices the visual appeal of sotn completely, with retreaded music that isn't memorable and tons of palette swap enemies, only a few real classes of weapons...
rondo > SOTN > 3 > 1 > Aria > Ecclesia > bloodlines > super > B:CotM> portrait > C:CotM > rebirth > dawn > LoD > HoD
Haven't played the rest. Bought Bloodlines RotN yesterday during the sale
low effort bait
Agreed OP. Good taste
>Bought Bloodlines RotN yesterday
Bloodstained*, had the sega game on my mind
you will like bloodstained, i did, even after dissing it don't let the first hour or two of the game throw you off, it gets much better once you get past the first couple areas, then it gets worse again, then better again, then...
>compares castlevanias against one another
>user mentions a non-castlevania game and claims it adds onto the game
I mean sure, I took the bait I guess. But I don't understand why ya'll are bitching I pointed out it's not a castlevania game
>who cares?
Then what is even left in the game? Like, the actual level design is awful repetitive corridors, there are barely any meaningful powers or actual platforming and all the crazy weapons and RPG elements barely matter. The PS1 has way better 2D exploration focused platformers, like Tomba and Oddworld, so I don't even really understand why this game gets so much praise, even for when it came out.
One of the worst actually
looking forward to it. it looks like ass, but the gameplay footage always seemed promising.
if you people want a good metroidvania with classic castlevania gameplay, try lu-mulana. it's awesome and free.
>ya'll
it's obviously a castlevania game
it's not though
it's inspired by it sure
but it's like calling SotN a metroid game because the idea of backtracking is there
or calling it a super mario game because of the jumping
>the creator of SotN was inspired by his own game
what an intellectual take
How's the android port?
>The PS1 has way better 2D exploration focused platformers, like Tomba and Oddworld
LOL
single player games arent about challenge dude..only multiplaye really is unless youre playing racing or rhythm or whatever
its really visually ass throughout the whole game and its so bizarre because there are entire areas that you can tell got 10x more love/work than other entire areas.
I expect the sequel will be quite good. Ideally it'd be real 2d.
bloodstained is literally coded to be as mechanically similar to sotn as possible. there are direct references in terms of enemies, secrets, special moves, weapons, etc
it's not "similar" it is designed to be the same game as much as possible.
It's too easy, it makes it really boring to replay, there's nothing in the game that feels challenging
>I don't agree that it adds anything to sotn though
It adds the AoS soul system and expands on it, which is a really nice addition to sotn level gameplay. Also, there are a lot more weapon special moves than in SotN though not as many as i'd want.
The visuals suck without question but I don't blame them for it.
That Alucard chick is pretty hot
Is not even the best game in the series to begin with...but that soundtrack tho...
SotN's map design and progression is really, really good.
>single player games aren't about challenge dude
I never said anything about challenge, and that's bullshit because single player games let you play for time/score and in certain cases can have custom difficulties and can be made arbitrarily hard.
But that's not even specifically why I'm mentioning those games (even though they do offer more challenge), it's that they're far more interesting games to explore and just better designed in general.
I resent the fact that the sequels, while having better balance and variety, were released on inferior hardware. I would have killed for the gba/ds metroidvanias to have the resolution and sound quality of the ps.
>tfw we'll never get a castlevania game with visuals on the level of Rain World
I love that game but when I look at the "graphics", all I can think of is how fucking awesome they'd look in a castlevania game
