Halo 3 was better than Halo 2 but Halo 2 was nowhere near better than Halo CE. ODST was lazy and Reach was hot garbage. Technically 5 is better than 4 at everything but campaign.
The only thing everyone can agree on about Bungie's Halo games is that every campaign and MP has it's pros and cons. The only MP that people could reasonably argue was a direct improvement from one game to the next was H2 to H3.
It's the difference in design philosophy. Bungie made Halo the most innovative FPS of the 2000s because they were intent on making it it's own thing. If you see any FPS games that were made after it, you would see that they borrowed many elements from Halo, whether it be dual wielding, online team based deathmatch multiplayer, etc.
343 on the other hand wants Halo to reflect popular conventions of modern shooters like Call of Duty which means they fail to grasp the point of the series entirely. As a result, Halo went from the father of modern FPS games to the orphaned retarded bastard child.

5 has some of the best gameplay of the series. If you disagree, you're clinically retarded. Overall 5 was bad, a shame because the gameplay was dope and ridiculously fun.
The 2nd level in Halo CE is the only good one.

Have you seen the dev team and how they go about things? Literal talent less hacks who are just making Halo games for the paycheck.
This series decreases its quality with every iteration...the only legit good game is the first one...on consoles. On PC is just a mediocre FPS with an interesting setting and really good music. The people that liked Reach only do so because of their emotional attachment...is basically a telenovela for nerds.
Bungie's AI, atmpsphere, and skyboxes are superb but their level design is lazy. Alot of levels are literally mirrored so you just go through the same corridors twice.
This. As much as the nerds of Zig Forums and /vg/ claim, h5 (now, not at launch) has a fun mp. 343 also added customs browser which grants them some praise even if it’s mostly just clan recruitment lobbies
I was so excited when I saw this:
It had the exploration and mystery feel of Metroid Prime. A departure and taking Halo into new territory. Cortana's rampancy would have had far more impact if Chief (and by extension, the player) had to deal with it alone.
But then 343 chickened out and had the marines show up 10 minutes into the game.
Nevertheless Halo 4 had a great ending...which Halo 5 then ruined.
The problem with 343 is they lack the balls to move the Halo franchise forward. They play it safe and thus it underwhelms.

Halo 5 is a lot of things, good ain't one of them. Also Reach was excellent and the hate it receives comes from zoomers who never read Fall of Reach and millennials who did but were too autistic to accept minor plot changes. Everyone who lost their virginity at a reasonable age loved it.
my personal fave is halo 3, i also appreciate ODST as a black sheep that gets treated harshly (as it should since they made it cost 60 bucks) but as a cheap sub 10 dollar game now you can see bungie tried to make something new but due to only having a year to make had drastic cutbacks in tech/writing
i love the atmosphere and i never played firefight before and after 3 matches i can say its worth for that alone.
halo 1/2 ive played a few missions on a crystal xbox when i was younger, and i do remember enjoying them at least gameplay wise.
campaign speaking are they any good? i heard that 3 has the best, and i really enjoy the campaigns (shame in 3 the input lag is horrible on co-op)
One of the biggest problems with 343 is they've completely lost the narrative of the original trilogy. The covenant seemed like a genuine threat to humanity I'm the bungie games. The fact they actually bothered to give that war agency and history which all added to the tension of each games themes was pretty original for video games in the last decade. In each installment you could feel the impact of human civilization having been at war with alien religious zealots; the graffiti vowing vengeance against reach. The way soldiers would flip out at the sight of Hunters or a Scarab, or basically the entire ODST campaign. Even the first few moments of Halo isreminiscent of the opening of Star Wars where you feel like there is a much larger conflict at play than the one which is unfolding on the screen. There was a lot of soul in those games.
Master chief felt like he was a part of that war. His near invincibility felt earned in way, not just "I'm invincible because I'm the player character." Thing ls in the 343 games don't feel earned. There's no history in the conflict between humanity and the forerunners and the rampancy in cortana feels contrived. You don't have soldiers vowing revenge for past atrocities and no one speaks in hushed reverence of Chiefs expoilts... Because as far as we the player are concerned that's all there is the chief fighting for cheif and his Waifu.
