It got a lot of praise on release but the RE fanbase is very autistic with certain people sperging out whenever an RE game doesn't fit their exact pre-defined notion of what RE should be, so it's since had its detractors who shit on it. It's a survival horror game and a neat soft reboot for the series, which is really what it needed. It's not perfect but it's an easy recommendation for fans of the genre/franchise.
