only in multiplayer games where you would be kicked if you dont load fast enough
load speeds are night and day
i have been using an ssd for like 6 years now get with the times
most games load 1 single time and you're set, of course 15 seconds is better than 60, but I don't see much advantage
Only if you've already had one
Make this thread on the 1st of January ill let you know. Mark your calendar
Not sure if bait, but really, loading times are so amazing. Id also say it depends on the type of game you want to play. Surely you will be fine with regular drive, if you decide to play Binding of Isaac, or Hero Siege, but will want to pick up an SSD for Battlefield 1 for example.
>but will want to pick up an SSD for Battlefield 1 for example.
why?
lets assume one would play vydia 13 hours per day, one would waste a significant amount of time by using 60s intead of 15s per load
its not required, but if you have one the entire system runs faster, from boot up to shutdown, to loading random applications, games load instantly
it's worth it for sure, but if you dont have the money don't sweat it.
Literally who cares. Post more Astolfo.
Depends what you play really. Generally I would say it doesn't matter much.
which game has several 60 seconds loading screens though? Normally open world games have one big loading screen for example.
although I have to admit I like Total War, yeah, a ssd would help in that game immensely.
Cool, thanks!
okay
Texture streaming is a thing so less pop in on ssd
Only for multiplayer/competitive games.
not him but the load times can be pretty bad on GTAV.
>60s vs 15s isn't a huge advantage
that's a huge fucking difference especially in games MHW. I didn't know consoles had to deal with nearly 2 minutes of loading times when I thought 20s loading times with the highres textures installed were long.
>draw a sneed
>call it a chuck
I don't think I could use a PC with an HDD for OS drive. Honestly, just get a 50$ 256GB SATA SSD, even if loadings are that improved (they will be) the overall speed of the machine is much much better.
They're cheap and it's huge upgrade, just get one.
>50$
oh, so the minimum wage in my country :)
>the overall speed of the machine is much much better.
other than the time windows takes the load?
HILARIOUS AND ORIGINAL
It makes a huge difference for OS and a lot of games.
Trying to play a heavily modded game without a SDD is like trying to cut steak with a butter knife- it's slow and sucks but it can still be done.
Yeah, that's rough. I fully understand though.
More than just the Windows load, the simple act of not stalling the OS just because you are opening an app. Like someone else said, it's night and day, once you try it you don't want to go back.
oh, so that will be my next upgrade then. thanks!
Why even use HDDs any more if SSDs are so good? Is there some downside to them?
hdds for poorfags or data hoarders basically
hdd is for cheap storage space for stuff like archives that rarely get opened or moved.
do you play bethshit? specifically fallout 4? do you play games with multiple area transitions? do you play source-based multiplayer games?
if the answer to one or more is yes, and you think the general improvement for load times across every program AND the OS are worth the price, then go for it. I found a cheap ass 500 gig nvme one for 49.99 with free shipping.
I heard SDDs degrade faster
price per gig is much higher, and I don't remember if this only applied to early models, but I recall reading that there's a finite number of read/writes before the drive dies.
still better cost per gb
yeah when you do stupid stuff like constantly (24/7) write to them for literally years straight with multiple petabytes of writes. modern SSDs, that is ones not from the first year of them hitting consumer market are not going to die early.
Any SSD you buy today that's not from AliExpress will likely last you more than an HDD.
