Does Base ps4 benefit from ssd in any way?

I have spare ssd laying around and wondering is there any point putting it in the ps4

SSDs are inherently faster the HDDs.

it makes a slight difference, you'll barely notice it. the reason the PS5 is much faster is because they fixed all the other bottlenecks (I/O, talking to other components, optimizations in games). just dropping in an SSD doesn't make a huge difference

yes but can the base ps4 take advantage of it as I think its sata 2

Yes.

Well I don't expect it to make a big difference at all. Just wondering if it would make *any* difference

Yes, many games have significant improvements to load times thanks to an SSD

SSDs make a huge difference even on PS4s. Quit your bullshit.

Yes on ps4 slim and pro. not the original base model

Yes

Sure. But nothing like the PS5.
You will see loading screens go from 1 minute go to 50sec.

No not pro. Base launch day model which doesn't have sata 3

>OCZ
Kek that garbage company went under and even their outdated shit has a speed benefit. Modern SSD's are way faster and bigger than everything OCZ ever produced.

it's like 15-30% improvement, it's not like pc where it's 500%+

Yeah, PS4 will hamper any SSD you throw at it because of the controller and yet once you go SSD you can never go back even on a PS4, hell even on PS3.

He uses it as an external drive over USB and it's much faster than the stock HDD

Everything I've heard with regards to base PS4 is that an external USB 3.0 drive will have faster speeds than an internal SSD because of the internal SATA II ports. The following PS4 models had SATA III ports and thus had faster throughput but honestly I don't think gameplay will be smoother in the majority of games.

Is there a good ssd for ps4 pro on sale?

recommend fast external pls

I don't even think is a good idea for the longevity of those USB 3.0 ports to play game like that.

So basically what you guys are saying is base ps4 will only have very small benefit from ssd?

Huge benefit even if it's hampered by the controller

I duuno why you are focused on controller. I just asking if it would improve load times and shhit

Not really, the ps4 doesn't utilize it well.

There was only a small difference from the base to the pro model, and it most likely isn't due to the Sata version
SSDs don't improve load times to PC levels because game load speeds are mostly bottlenecked by CPU speed, and the PS$ has a garbage CPU.
PS4 pro probably only loads faster because it has a faster CPU

kek

The answer is yes, but better off putting the money towards a ps5.

It does make a difference but because PS4 is crippled by its own SATA thoroughput you won't get anywhere near as much of a benefit as you would HDD vs. SSD in a PC, stick with a high-capacity SSHD for internal storage which will grant you pretty much all benefits of putting an SSD into it for a much lower price

I don't need to buy anything. I only made thread as I have a spare ssd just sitting here doing nothing and was wondering if theres any point putting it in the ps4

You'll notice some improvement but nothing mindblowing, you're basically maxing out SATA II thoroughput

Fair enough. Suppose I might as well just try it anyways and see
