Pretty novel idea to be able to talk yourself out of it but the execution was absolutely terrible.

Even more insulting is that the mobbage game has a chapter that only serves to explain how he was a good guy and why we should feel happy he didn't recieve any consequences.

Also wait until he comes back as a good guy for no reason at all in a few more games and everyone is going to be a-okay with all the bad shit he did.

To be fair, Vesperia would've veen weirdly short ending with Alexei. I think Duke veing the big bad was fucking pointless but at the end of the day most Tales games really stumble towards the end with how much side content opens up at the 11th hour. I love the series and think Vesperia holds up pretty well, minus the phoned in DE voicelines, but damn does it fucking dump a shit pile of stuff on you at the end.

When I was playing Yakuza 5 I went through the list of characters in the game in the menu when I was in the run up to the final boss trying to figure out who it could be and I had no idea. When I saw who it was I didn't even recognize him.

It's kind of a Tales trope though, they always make it seem like it's going to end at chapter 2 with a lot of buildup, only to have a twist and give you another chapter. It's just that Vesperia does a poor job of having the player interact with the bad guys. Most encounters with Duke are missable, for an example.

At least with Ragou, Cumore, and Alexei we were shown actually reasons to hate them so Yuri killing them felt much more satisfying.
With Duke you're told he's the real bad guy and his motives off-screen with him not even doing anything really villainous but say he wanted to wipe out humanity that he soon decides not to.
