it's good if you enjoy comfy walking simulators. there isn't much in the way of gameplay and it's more of a visual novel than a "game". the superb voice acting is what really makes the game. just don't look at any of the devs twitter accounts and you'll have a good time (unless you're a LGBTQ+ BLM activist then by all means follow them on twitter).

The entire game is about escapism. They make the characters believe, and the player, that there's some absurd, movie-like scenario happening. They want to believe it and so does the player in an attempt to avoid facing the mundane reality.

It's ironic that Henry perfectly represents the group of people who Firewatch's message is meant for. The ending is harsh and sobering. There is no alien, there is no secret government organization. It's just you, running away from your problems and dreaming up drama and heroics; escapism.

A few years ago game journalists were collectively trying very hard to push Walking Sims games (for various reasons).

Most people saw through the bullshit (especially after falling for it and getting burnt), but there are still several people who, because they suffer from slave mentality, still faithfully listen to the voice of the authority, in this case vidya journalists.

Yeah there's no multiplayer so you might as well just pirate it. The achievements and easter eggs are not worth replaying it or wasting time on it. It's a (very) good movie-game, not an incredible game (but it's really beautiful). I loved it then tried again to get the last few achievements I needed, but it's not really replayable actually.
