It's not supposed to be deep. Its just a way to generate enemies beyond generic faceless mooks, and some of those orcs just oozed fucking personality.
The games were pretty much just a tech demo for the system and after playing it you start wishing more games implemented it.

the a.i. is so broken sometimes but I did find it pretty fun, I don't like how spongey enemies are though. I actually made an orc captain adapt to everything because he had so much health I couldn't kill him quick enough

Those mercenaries wish they were half as interesting as those orcs.
Also no fun stuff like those enemies that refused to stay dead and just kept coming back meaner and crazier than before.
