They weren't picked for genetic 'perfection' per se. Just extremely specific genetics. The Spartan-IIs were such genetic longshots that they accepted chicks as well because the genes required were so absurdly rare and the genetic augmentations & mental indoctrinations were so extreme that any gender differences would be basically eliminated. They could only find like 150 kids across the entire human race with the right genes so they weren't going to disregard 70 of them. A perfectly reasonable explanation for having female supersoldiers
But since Halo 4 (and the books sometime before that) they've joined in with the rest of society's strong-women delusion so we just have to accept that all soldiers and combat units are gender equal and you're a shitlord for wanting an explanation why because men and women are exactly the same.
