What was better in their prime? EB games or Gamestop? Both were pretty based at one time.

Neither.
Game Crazy trumped both of them.
never went to one, was that a uk thing?
we never had gamestop only ebgames
there was any difference?
I only went to EBgames to check what each store had for GBA/Gameboy games. I was always hunting for fire emblem and never found it. I got castlevania double pack for like 10$ though, as well as lots of other good stuff like wario land 4, tactics ogre the knight of lodis, donkey kong 94 and megaman zero. I liked the novelty of seeing what they had on display because it was always pretty limited and everything but pokemon was cheap as hell compared to like used PS2 games and shit.
whagt the fuck
i cant speak for anyone elses experience other than my own, but eb games seemed to be a bit more of a wild card as to what they would have, this would have been during the early 2000s though. Gamestop I think was a bit more predictable. Both had good selections from what I call, but eb games tended to have a more eclectic selection of collectables and games even if the total number of games was less.
none of them, peak gaming store always has been and always will be Microplay
is this something pre 2000?
>Strolls into a Babbages and buys Civilization I for $60, with three forms of security on the game to prevent theft
there are less and less of them but we still got them in Canada, they even got a glass display case with rare old games in it and they got the biggest selection by far. if you want to get some old rarer games Microplay is the place to go. i bought final fantasy III at a microplay for 80$ in the 90's
whats the best civ game for cheap? im thinking of buying one today on steam sale. im thinking maybe 3 or 4?
In my small town there was a guy who would bring in his ps2 memory card to gamecrazy and get their permission to use the display ps2 play games for hours... usually some jappo shit that in retrospect looked like EDF or something. I wonder where he is now
>Both were pretty based at one time
No
Fuck the big box stores
The only good thing about the technodystopia of Google and Amazon running everything is that shitheads like Gamestop and Blockbuster died for what they did to local businesses
3 & 4 are peak comfy
5 is alright
6 was bloated shit BEFORE the recent expansion pass, now it's fucking ridiculous shit. P2W civs each more broken than the last and more and more unsatisfyingly tedious systems layered on top of the previous tedious systems ruined Civ 6
selling used video games as a business is scumback scalping shit that fucks over devs. I'm glad those mom and pop fuckers had to get a real job. imo selling anything used should only be legal for personal sale on kijiji or some shit and not for operating on the scale of a licenced business.
And yes, that includes cars. There is a reason "used car salesman" is slang for untrustworthy slimeball. They are fucking scalpers. fuck middle men.
3 Gold Edition. Even with a lot of RAM, the game craps out eventually. Games like Civilization 6 don't even make sense because they are huge from the very start.
idk what youre talking about. The only other gamestores around me in the early 2000s were those repair shops that also sold used game and cards and they usually overcharged everything.
thanks user out of 3 and 4 which is better? 3 is only a dollar while 4 is 7. i only got 20 bucks to spend on the sale tonight. already getting deus ex, deus ex HR, new vegas so i think i can just afford to get civ 4
how many are we talking in canada like 100 stores? sounds interesting.
>that fucks over devs
Publishers disband development teams after they make the content for the season pass. Developers like Crystal Dynamics could fix the problems with their games, but the publisher instead hires a skeleton crew of college kids.
why is 3 better then 4?
hes probably here on Zig Forums think about it
this is some low quality caveman logic bait
>shitheads like Gamestop and Blockbuster died for what they did to local businesses
I never went to a mom and pop video shop once
fool
no idea how many but in comparison my area has like 15 eb games and 2 microplays
Didn’t know Microplay was a chain. I was just at the one in Brantford yesterday. Pretty nice selection.
those stores existed for a reason its supply and demand, i think the majority of games especially older ones of even an average quality, the supply couldnt meet the demand. there was no ebay and not everyone was willing to drive to 10 stores or possibly another town to try some ps1 game. especially for 60 dollars new if you were taking a chance on something weird.
OH NO! SOMEONE SOLD A USED PS1 GAME FROM 20+ YEARS AGO! HOW WILL SONY EVER RECOVER?
Not him but no, they were usually part of the Video rental stores called Hollywood Video.
There’s only 3, all of which are in Ontario.
what's your point? whataboutism? Publishers at least provide some jewish usury tier service to devs and the pressure does make diamonds at times. Even if they are more destructive than resellers the used markets are nothing but scalping leeches that have no right to exist in the era of easy personal small sellers. You don't need a large storefront to house all the old stuff you cant find anymore, individuals can just throw it up on ebay or kijiji without inflating prices to cover their overhead and ballooning to such a scale it fucks over devs and people who are given chump change for their items.
There were some pretty based workers at my local EB back in the day when it was still called Electronics Boutique. They used to price match with no stock and give employee discounts all the time.
i know right i really like the selection i found a copy of kingdom come special edition for 14 bucks at one last week. another good place for cheap sometimes rare games in pawn shops. alot of the time they dont know what they have
I know, i'm saying they are an outdated business model that exploits ignorant consumers and fucks over creators. Individuals selling their own shit on a small scale is fine and now it's viable due to ecommerce. Middle men in general are next. No more selling to wallmart or bestbuy in bulk so they can jack up the price. Fuck merchants, they offer nothing of value, they just scalp products and exploit people who don't know where else to get the product.
>Local "Businesses"
Ah, yes, the same businesses selling field tested Pokemon cards 1 at a time for $10 a piece because they're holographic, way above their community listed selling value because they're worthless (some aren't even listed)
Peeked into the place on Black Friday and was taken aback. Scamming these kids isn't cool, I don't give a fuck about the hustle of having to compete with bigger companies.
And you bet your ass this place had managed to scalp 2 of each of the new consoles, and was selling them for $1200. Meanwhile at Gamestop, they were doing their annual "Buy 2 get 1 free" sale. I asked the manager about how the console sales went today, he said they managed to get 2 of them in and they were gone in a minute after doors opened.
Fuck your local "business" they are bottom feeding scum.
Yeah there’s a few good pawn shops in my city I frequent
