It's funny how they were just kind of quietly reintroduced in TFT but only in the most shallow and incomplete way, like they planned to bring it back but simply didn't have the know-how to make them work well in a 3D title.

Now more detailed I would say that in many ways, despite my love for it, War3 itself was a major departure from the original world of warcraft and set up the dominoes that would ensure its own self destruction. The irrevocably ruined/changed the themes and aesthetic of the first two games, as well as making the universe two small and the stakes two high that it was ultimately worthless to hold any stake in the story anymore.

Yep that was the worst thing about Reforged, they retroactively ruined the original.
They were too lazy to just have both versions exist at the same time with online parity, but not lazy enough to just re-sell the old version (which they really should have instead of Reforged).

they thought it would be funny to outsource a remake of what was probably one of the most important videogames of all time, and then force it on everyone who doesn't want it.

Lemon Sky wasn't the problem; they did the C&C and SC1 remasters as well if you want proof they aren't retarded
Blizzard for some reason demanded the character models be hyper-realistic while also leaving the more cartoony world textures intact, whereas Lemon Sky wanted both of them to look more cartoony and reminiscent of, say, HOTS

They made an amazing game, then followed it up with an amazing expansion. What went wrong was they decided "hey lets make this amazing series into an MMORPG and ruin everything the people before us did"

Heroes and items killed the versus mode, but then again, it's also the reason why custom games were so successful and so many genres spawned from wc3.

I always preferred Warcraft 2 due to the units being more expendable. I also think the art style, music, and gameplay is better in WC2.
