You're a fucking retard. Smart rounds with their own sustained propellant don't need traditional barrels and it's a waste of resources put into the gun to give it one. You don't manufacture redundant systems in a firearm, you make sure what it does have will work flawlessly on every trigger pull.

The rounds are basically miniature missiles and the gas port is to release the blowback when they launch. Same reason a rocket launcher has a breech (glorified gas port) at the back.
