FFXV

How the FUCK did SE fuck FFXV up so bad?
I mean, I unironically am interested in knowing about whatever went wrong in the hellish development process that the game remains incomplete despite dozens of multimedia releases and cancelled projects/DLCs apart from the main game.

What went wrong with FFXV is a long story that can be only summed up in the company fucking up their transition into the HD generation of consoles and never fully recovering.

The switching of directors did not help, changing the plot and focusing on everything that wasn't the game (collaborations, film, anime, etc.). It was a real waste of time and money and overall a mediocre disappointment. They should have focused entirely on the core game but because they knew they already fucked up they didn't.

If you really look at the games SE has released you will realize that SE is a pale shadow of its predecessors. They've done some decent games, but nothing really stands out like the games that Squaresoft and Enix would put out. The magic has slowly drained out of their IPs, they make bad decisions in terms of gameplay or map design, and too many of their games are filled with unfiltered Japanese cringe. I don't have any faith in SE. they succeed on brand & IP recognition / loyalty and the stupidity of weebs

They just don't give a shit anymore.
They've whored out the FF ip to mobile cash grabs for 10 years. Turn-based style combat filters too much of the market. All the decent action combat systems have already been used by other games. The only thing Nips like less than innovation is admitting they made a mistake. They went full leather twink with the PC and useless, annoying "party." Sooo many cutscenes. Shit story, even for a FF.
Game looks pretty but can do shit with it, like a centerpiece bowl filled with plastic fruit.

A lot of the game would have been saved if you just interesting party members. Sadly you didn't have any of those and the ones you had, had their stories cut out and sold separately.

I probably could make a youtube channel if I picked up editing

It's a flawed masterpiece.
The best entry since FFIX.

I think XII was better than XV. XV is at least better than XIII though.

Nah there's nothing it does well.

Basically, project got canned because XIV 1.0 fucked up. After a few years in the freezer, they decided to use Versus XIII as the next main entry and call it FFXV. Gave Nomura a new engine called Luminous which was still in it's development stage. Suddenly, Nomura was called to direct Kingdom Hearts 3. At first he thought he could handle both projects. But he then decided to give the project to Tabata who he invited to join the team as Co-Director. During this change, Tabata who sees an opportunity, wanted to make a FF in his own vision. But, he was already stuck in making a game about this Noctis guy, who he admittedly hates. He then decides to change parts of the story to fit his own vision of FF. And this almost always spells disaster. When a creative director took helm of another ones project, and decided to change some things because he didn't like what he got, it almost always ended up in a mess. Like The Justice League movie and even FFXII. From then he decided to make the game into an open world, because that was what's trending in the west. In the meantime the story rewrite is still not done, and Tabata also insist on changing the combat system. It went from something that looks closer to Kingdom Hearts info, the Duscae demo version, which they updated, twice, only to then strip it off entirely, and create the final version of the combat system. Bear in mind, the Duscae demo was released sometime within a year before the final game is released. This means that the final version of the combat system, in one year before release, was still not set in stone. And sometime during development, Tabata notices some areas of the game doesn't run too well, and would require more time for it to be in a playable form. Hence he decided to cut off the entire intro, and send the script to their Visual Works team, to create a movie, AND cut off some latter parts of the game, an entire continent out because they are running out of development time.

I'm missing a few things here and there. But that's basically the gist of it. I hope Square would allow to make a documentary out of it. So we will finally know what went wrong. The game was a mismanagement nightmare. For all the flack Tabata got for his weird creative choices. I still wanna applaud him for actually managing to release a game that is not a buggy mess like FO76. It is a fairly ok game that when analyzed, have a pretty decent action based combat system. If only they'd notice how broken items were and how lacking the indicator were. They should've set item usage under a timer or limit the carry limit during a battle and design the enemies to be less realistic and more game like.

Not that guy, but I like the simpler plot of XV. At least there's not any poorly explained time jannies.

The only interesting party member in XV was Ignis and Prompto. Gladio and Noctis is so boring. Gladio was so stupidly written that he literally did not care that his dad died during that invasion. And Noctis could only stare "determinedly" when he finally come to terms that his dad is dead. Like what the fuck. These two characters doesn't even have a weak moment in the story, even when the story needs them to be weak. Instead Gladio's moment of weakness came from him being BTFO by Ravus and that means he's too weak to defend the King who he hates. Noctis meanwhile barely changed as a character throughout the entire game.

>Nah there's nothing it does well.
Main cast is the best in the series

They changed Engines 4 times
Lost half their data in a flood / earthquake
Had 3 teams of writters walk out
Project Manager was on drugs
Coding team kept making buggy code.
Characters became too gay

They wanted to make a 200 hour game and then Square made them cut down to a 50 hour game late in the cycle.

Their's reports of Nomura knocking down the door, running in B team studio and screaming in latin autistically at the developement team, they lost years of developement time because of these kind of event

mainly, these But he failed to mention that the intro was not the only thing cut off from the final game.
Luna's tragic background, which was heavily hinted at in a trailer, was entirely scraped of the final game for not reason.
At the time there was some leaks that claimed they scraped it because it would generate controversy among SJWs in the West due to the nature of the content (a girl being abused).

I participated when these discussions took traction and I personaly believe that was the case, as there were several cutscenes already completed. There was no logical reason for them not include these cutscenes in the final game, specially after an update they included some scenes of the CGI movie.
Here's one of the trailers

In other words, Square chose to completely ruin the heroine of the game out of fear of faggots who don't even play games.
I will never forgive them for that.

>XIII
>XIV
>XV
>Avengers
>makes most money off Mobile games
Square Enix realized they don't need to make fun games and just need to market the shit out of them

Muh waifu don't even exist !

>Sooo many cutscenes
I bet you don't know how to count, inbred nigger.

But they learn that they don't even need to market it, all they need to do is name a game with the stupidest most confusing name they can think of (Versus XIII, kingdom hearts dream chains bubble drop memories), leak a couple of rumors and let the nerds speculate and spread the word

Not an argument!

>Square Enix realized they don't need to make fun games and just need to market the shit out of them

They realized that after the original FF7

Tabata is a hack

Oh shit. I totally missed Luna/Stella. She was such a non character in XV that I really can't remember her. Man, this has to be the least amount of screentime the main love interest is shown in a romance. Even Cidney had more interaction with the player/Noctis than Luna. God damn.

Yeah, right? It was such a waste. She's beautiful and a damsel in distress as well. I really miss this type of character

why so butthurt about that game?

it was a nice and comfy bro adventure with nice environments and an actiony combat that if u got into it instead of spamming attack you could make it look cool

what do the guys that've been whining for 5 years actually want?(rhetorical, i know spergs are never satisfied)

>Basically, project got canned because XIV 1.0 fucked up. After a few years in the freezer, they decided to use Versus XIII as the next main entry and call it FFXV.
To add, Versus xiii was in the freezer for so long because of the crystal tool engine development and then XIII's development putting it in the freezer. The actual development period where they used the crystal tools engine was an absolute nightmare. By the time the game was about to be rebooted, the engine couldn't handle the fast paced combat happening on the map.
>Gave Nomura a new engine called Luminous which was still in it's development stage. Suddenly, Nomura was called to direct Kingdom Hearts 3. At first he thought he could handle both projects. But he then decided to give the project to Tabata who he invited to join the team as Co-Director
Actually, the CEO at the time went straight to tabata and asked him personally if he would like to direct the reboot.

15 was good and I teared up at the end.
