Considering it doesn't tell you which side up it goes in yeah, it's a design oversight. Luckily I inserted Demon's Souls right the first time. Probably just spits out the disc anyway though if inserted wrong.

Probably because it's almost always portrayed in marketing in a vertical orientation, as well as the symmetry of the digital edition further confusing things
I think some minor aesthetic changes, like actual feet on the bottom of the system, could have gone a long way towards fixing this
