One time I got drunk and messaged a High School friend that I had added on Steam. It was a bunch of incoherent shit. I was saying stuff about how he was a good friend to me in High School and how I was a terrible friend or something like that. I don't think he actually read it, as far as I know he doesn't even have his PC plugged in at the moment. It's weird because I was drunk enough to do that but not drunk enough that I don't remember it, I really wish I was though.

Used to have a little friend group online but that faded away and now I'm so out of practice with socializing I think I dug myself a pit I can't climb out of.

It's fucking weird to get asked "so what are you going to do for today" out of nowhere with no context for the question. Red could have asked "You up for a game/movie today?" or something, but instead intruded on greens personal life with nothing to back it up. Green responded appropriately, and even answered the question after further prompting, only to be fucking rejected by some dickhead who immediately insults him and goes offline so he doesn't even get a chance to respond.

That message wasn't embarrassing though and I think I sent it at like 5 am. I went to sleep and by the time I woke up he sent a snap saying he didn't even have his computer plugged in. Oh, and I was sending those Steam messages at like 6 in the morning.

How? Green did not initiate the conversation. Red comes out of nowhere and tries to go with irrelevant small talk under the pretense of getting to know him better or something and is weirded out by green responding with equally meaningless shit.
For fuck's sake, those fags are Steam friends. If Red really needs to know more about Green, he can just invite him to play whatever vidya and conversations about random shit will naturally occur over the course of the game if communication is necessary.

If you're talking about online friends, it's not 100% on you since modern vidya is shit in multiple ways. Automated match making means you will rarely play with the same people. Chat functions are usually kinda limited too, so unless you join some Discord cliques, you'll be shit out of luck.
If you're talking about IRL stuff, yeah, that's kinda shitty as you get older. It's easy to make friends as a kid since you can bond over meaningless shit. It's a bit harder once you don't have time for shit outside of work and everyone's generally busy with their own life.

Red is textbook Asperger's. I'm no psychoanalyst but you can spot them from a mile away. They literally cannot conceive of a world that isn't centered around them and their interests. Red can't think of the conversation in any other context than his desire to socialize with Green and the obligation Green has to him to fulfill that duty. What's so hopeless about people with Asperger's is that they have an interminable desire to talk the ear off anyone who will listen, and absolutely no awareness as to the annoyance this causes.
