Decades thus must logically run from 1-9, anything else results in a dwarf decade somewhere in the calendar at some point. Counting decades from years ending in 0 is entirely arbitrary and you may as well just count them from years ending in 3, 7, 9 or whatever else people feel.

Sorry, I meant 1-10. 11 AD was the beginning of the 2nd decade of the Gregorian calendar and so on and so forth. Same reason the 3rd millennium began on 2001, as well as the 21st century.
2021 is the beginning of the 3rd decade of the 3rd millennium. 2020 is merely the end o the decade which began on 2011.

I would never use an arbitrary term like 'the 80s', and I did not 'literally' argue that. The 9th decade of the 20th century began on 1981 and ended in 1990 though.

So is 1985-1994. So is 533-542. But they're entirely arbitrary groupings of 10 years which do not conform to the Gregorian year numbering system, just like 2020-2029.
