Nothing
It's just that Insomniac is still willing to make a R&C game, while Sucker Punch & especially Naughty Dog are not.

R&C and Sly had a consistent vision that the devs stuck to during their original runs. Jak on the other hand abandoned their vision after their first game in an attempt to mimic GTA and R&C's popularity.

These are the scumbags who own Ratchet. Expect shit eventually and then rightful death.

Jak never crashed and burned. They just finished it.

Ted Price is kino, but everyone else sucks.

I'm not sure. Ratchet & Clank was always a little better than the other two overall. But I think most of that was based on the base game design. of ratchet & clank being better than the other series. Ratchet & Clank fell off in sales after the ps2 trilogy though and even the ps4 game still hasn't sold 3 mil like the ps3 trilogy.

Just for comparison the ratchet & clank trilogy all sold about 3.5 million each while jak series sold low 2 mil and sly 1.5 mil.

Based truthteller

Whatever happened to the Sly cartoon they announced years ago? It was due October 2019.

Sly ended with the third game, SP never had any intention of continuing the series after that. They did everything they set out to do with the gameplay concepts and told a complete story with a conclusive ending. Same thing with Jak, there's no reason to keep making sequels, especially when ND have long since moved on.

R&C, on the other hand, SHOULD have ended with the third game but Insomniac kept pumping em out for easy money and now the franchise is a complete zombie that only continues to exist because Sony has very little else in the way of recognizable kid-friendly IP.

The newest ratchet game looks good regardless.

Don't kid yourself. If they had sold better Jak and Sly would still be getting made too. Jak shot itself in the foot trying to ride trends instead of doubling down on what made it good. Sly just wasn't a game with a broad enough appeal to begin with.

There's no real reason fr Rift Apart to exist though. If Sony wanted to do something good for Insomniac but still keep the Ratchet tone, they could have resurrected Overstrike. Yet another Ratchet game feels like a waste of their talents.

inFAMOUS and Uncharted found great success whereas Resistance not so much, so Insomniac just went back to the drawing board.

What if you like Ratchet games though

I dunno then. But my fear is that Insomniac were only brought in to do Spidey and Ratchet forever and Rift Apart doesn't help my fears. It's understandable why they can't do Sunset 2 even though they really want to. But becoming a factory would be the worst thing possible after years of Ted saying they don't want to be a "factory" (Which is why they did Sunset and a bunch of small games)

Is Jak and Daxter the Family Guy of Vidya?
>Both properties were more lighthearted and filled with humor that appealed to everyone, no dark stories and edgy tones
>However, due to the change in the industry, both had a short hiatus so they could change their concepts
>Jak 2 is now edgy GTA shit with guns and Jak with a goatee due to those kinds of games being popular and collecthons dying
>Family Guy got revived and became more edgy, mean-sprited and full of randumb shock humor since shows like South Park and Happy Tree Friends were popular and had those elements.

It's so eeriely similiar, but it makes perfect sense.

R&C had decent gameplay unlike the other two that are nothing more than nostalgia trash.

They were never good

muh guns

Sly 2 is an early example of a series being ruined with time wasting open world shit.

SOUL

R&C went on to be a souless husk of what it used to be. You should be glad the modern videogame industry won't touch Jak or Sly.

I'll fight you. It was a cartoony heist simulator.

>open world

New Ratchet games are still fucking fun and people put way too much fucking stock in the series' overarching plot. It's just a framework for blowing things up and platforming, why is it treated as the end-all of the series? Jak was a series centered around a narrative first and foremost, Ratchet never was.

The movie game was a little egregious but the habit of calling it a remake obscures what it actually is, a licensed game that was tying into a movie made by a studio known for Barbie films. Rift Apart isn't set in that universe, that universe bombed and its teased second film was swiftly killed in the bed.

Singlehandedly destroyed the platformer mascot genre

Because Naughty Dog just stopped caring about anything cartoony, Sucker Punch at least tried to get Sly back up but it kind of fell apart and they just moved back onto what they were good with.
Insomniac just enjoy Ratchet and Clank enough to keep coming back to it and Sony is happy to let them

The second R&C trilogy is better than the first one, even though it had less sales. I think that's because they hired a hollywood writer for it.

insomniac embraced the challenge of moving on from spyro and put their all into making a worthy successor. naughty dog never did the same with crash. there was never any passion with jak, they had no idea what to do with the IP other than chasing trends, which is why they ended up poorly copying gta. really just goes to show that insomniac has always been a better studio than naughty dog.

R&C embraced the growing TPS trends of its age while Sly and Jak were still platformers at heart
