My first waifu...

new or old, there will be some decent games and a lot of shit. i don't think anything at the moment would beat a remastered burnout 3, a new mercenaries game, or super metroid 2 if they ever existed, but at the same time, i like Control a lot.

I don't think my take on Vidya is broad enough to make a statement, though I'd like to say yes, but I feel it'd be dishonest. The more honest statement I can make is that the Vidya Industry, moreso the higher ends of it, aren't producing as much of the genres I love as they used to, and i'm not quite fond of a lot of what's being produced: I'm not that into RPGs, I really don't like Open Worlds, and I dislike Shooters. Never really rode the train of Competition either, so i'm not too pleased with the state of Multiplayer games either.

No. It just comes down to the individual games. Now give me a new Vagrant Story FFT Tactics Ogre and DD

based fellow 21-25 year old

that's a fact rather than an opinion at this point

No, as always there are great games and shit games.

We're in the dark ages and it's going to take another video game crash for anything to improve.

no

wait, I mean it kinda means on what you mean by "old" -- arcade bullshit designed to eat quarters is inherently un-fun nowadays, but there was a time between then and now when designers wanted to make dope games that were fun as fuck, instead of marketing companies that pushed out the latest skinner box designed to keep our asses at the slot machines.
There are still some based gamedevs that focus on fun, though, and they're still learning from the past. It's a slow crawl upwards if the gems are found and supported, but it's getting better all the same. picrel.

Its a combination of the way the industry is, and in my old age im not as patient and willing to play bad games as i was younger

Some new indie game are pretty brilliant

This. And then this again.

yes

i-i love you avril....

Depends on genre.

Objectively not, but the more streamlined and focused on presentation they become, the less unique and intriguing they become.
I feel like I've played all of this before and my motivation goes down the drain.

Older games used to be centred on this thing called 'fun', something which many current gen games are lacking. A lot of modern games are either linear or filled with repetitive busywork, and lack proper interactivity with the game world, thus detracting from the fun factor.

lol I’m playing pokemon yellow on my 3DS atm and having fun. I’d say overall the mainstream stuff is mostly soulless and its all made with the bottom line as top priority. (microtransactions, releasing rushed and unfinished games) still lots of good indie games but you just have to search. honestly its the best time for games and game creation but its also the worst for customers and players (overall) just my opinion

Obviously so.
Older games could be passion projects, there were no real microtransactions and while publishers could be shit there wasn't the same level of greed that exists in the industry today. Plus most games are dumbed down to appease as many people as possible, rather than aiming for specific audiences.

The industry has grown to the point where it COULD make some amazing shit with the budgets they have, but won't because its easier to make paint by numbers drek with a ton of cut content resold for even more money later on down the line. Anyone who thinks modern games are better is either a retard or is just wowed by fancy graphics.

Gaming is better than ever.
Retards will look at CoD and Fifa as some kind of "proof" that gaming got worse because apparently good games don't matter only what is the most popular is relevant.

yes and no; Nintendo have gone to shit and can't match their Gamecube library, their focus on gimmicks over gameplay has killed way too many games
Sony has stopped giving a shit about Japan and actually fun games like Ape Escape, all their games feel the exact same
Microsoft isn't even worth talking about right now
AAA is mostly a bloated mess, but I'm not sure it was ever all that good
AA doesn't even really exist anymore, the smaller titles you'd see on the PS2 and such aren't really a thing, AA now is just Eurojank mostly
'indie' feels like a genre in and of itself now, in that they all seem to be procedural roguelite pixelshit games that everyone and their grandmother is making, although we do get some real standouts like Hollow Knight every so often
all that said, I still have a lot of games I'm looking forward to, a mixture of all of the above, so it's just a matter of knowing where to look and knowing what your tastes are

I guess some of these new games are entertaining and fun, but they just don't catch my attention any more. IDK man, all I've been playing are old games so I'm probably biased, but playing SMAC just seems to be a lot more fun and immersive than, say, playing Sekiro or Witcher 3 or Genshin Impact.

I was actually thinking of upgrading my PC after about 6 years, and the only game I really liked within the past 5 years is Kenshi.

They are on an objective level worse. There is no excuse for DLC, microtransactions, games launching completely broken, game discs being worthless until you download an 8 gb update that contains the real game, and all this at 10 to 20 dollars (base price, not even including DLC) more than what a full, polished game in 2005 would cost you.

Only zoomer brainlets whose parents didn't properly teach them about how video games are supposed to be would say otherwise.

depends, back in the day 30% of the games were good, now we have way more games but only like 4% are good

No lol the sheer number of games out there make it where there's multiple really great games for each genre released every year. I fucking love it

Fuck this bitch atleast post someone good.

And yes
Games didn't hold back with trying to push people to the extreme in their games making them challenging and more fun

you ll never be as hyped for mass effect as you were back then, user

newer games offer a lot of polish and content but I do prefer something more straightforward and cartoony. i never really outgrew the early and mid 90s with respect to my preferences and will always prefer that.

this is satire, right?

They aren't worse but certainly more homogenized, at least in AAA. Indies do pull off original concepts more frequently.
AAA shooters all play mostly the same in the sense that before playing the game you already know what to expect, instead of being introduced to a new take on what a shooter can be. They all mostly take directions from each other and the innovation comes more from small design choices that have no effect on the game in particular and are then added to other games in updates.
But it's still better than what late 2000s early 2010 had

fuck off industry shill

Pizza party at your house
I went just to check it out
Nineteen extra larges
What a shame
No one came

Just us eatin' all alone
You said, "Take the pizza home"
"No sense lettin' all this go to waste"
So then I faced

Pizza all day
And every day
This cheese 'round the clock
Is gettin' me blocked
And I sure don't care
For irregularity

Tell me
Why'd you have to go and make me so constipated?
'Cause right now I'd do anything to just get my bowels evacuated
In the bathroom ... I sit and I wait and I strain
And I sweat and I clench and I feel the pain
Oh, should I take laxatives or have my colon irrigated?
No no no

Where is the satire? He's completely right you retarded zoomer.

I really don't think they make JRPGs like they used to. I recently played some PS1-era JRPGs I had never played before and still found them to hold up better than the modern stuff like XBC2 Royal, Persona 5 or the newest PS4 Star Ocean

Why do you think that, retard?

Attached: 065.gif (484x360, 1.51M)

God I miss this game

Attached: file.png (640x480, 698.96K)

What PS1 JRPGs have you been playing? I want some of that.

Back in the day it was incredibly common for games to be released unfinished. At a later point in time they'd sell the same game in a fancy new version with new modes and features that were missing.

You will never see anyone on Zig Forums criticize that kind of stuff with old games because newfags on Zig Forums aren't even aware of this shit and fell for the "back then games were released in a complete state" because youtubers kept pushing this narrative.

Back then if a game came out in Japan first and only month later got a NA & European release it'd be a different, more polished version of the game. Regional differences were incredibly common, why doesn't Zig Forums criticize this?

What about censorship? If Sony censors some pantyshots nowadays it's the end of the world. Let's ignore how much worse censorship used to be in the 90s.

it depends
old jrpgs are definitely better
old fighting games or series like battlefield are most likely worse

most of them, yes
but there are some pieces of gold that are better than any old game
