You do know ray tracing is a fad, right? It's just like 3D TV - it's the new hot thing to buy but look at it now, it's irrelevant. Ray tracing will last a console generation/ 5 years and then dropped.
Ray tracing is a meme
>better lighting and rendering is the same as a shitty 3d gimmick
I bet OP thinks the thing they're trying to demonstrate in that image is the reflection on the sphere, which can already be done without RT, instead of the fact that the wall and floor are actually white.
>It's just like 3D TV

It's not better lighting when you're emulating 5 particles with one bounce. We're like 5 fucking generations away from the point where we can go for the full fucking retard brute force solution of "just simulate real light particles lmao" that is raytracing to work in real-time.
Current implementation makes so many fucking compromises it's barely noticeable without slapping reflective surfaces all over the place (1 bounce, cheap and a pure gimmick) and it still tanks performance worse than the most pitiful outsourced console port.
Maybe in 20 years you'll see some actual real-time raytracing that isn'y just some nvidia physX shovelware, or console war "blast processing" level of bullshit.
>Ray tracing is a meme
It's fucking great
I don't think you understand what RAY tracing is if you're equating it with light PARTICLES. A ray in mathematics is not the same thing as a light ray.
It's not. Having something much better than screen space reflection and having global illumination in realtime is insane.
waves then, whatever, I'm not here to argue fucking semantics
RT audio will be standard way quicker than lighting.
It's also definitely not waves, you're getting this more wrong with every post. It's also not semantics, you fundamentally don't understand what ray tracing is emulating.
why is everyone so jelly of raytracing?
as I said, don't care
Then why are you regurgitating your useless misinformed opinion?
Real-time raytracing is not a meme, it's the Holy Grail of computer graphics. So far we only have bits and pieces of it, like 3d-modeling programs can show a low-res preview of a render in real time, and we have Minecraft with very good graphics, but it does not make it a meme.
We get it, OP is the most retarded person here, no need to prove it further
That's a lot of words for "I'm a poor"
The fact that RTX, never mind the console hackjobs, are shit, does not hinge on fucking semantics
if you want a pat on the back for your butting in with some physics trivia, why don't you waddle off back to redit
Minecraft raytracing is drastically different than shader mods
The way how light is so fucking clear and accurately drawn and reflected is a different world compared to shader mods in minecraft
Faking ray tracing is cool but the real thing cannot be matched but the hardware right now especially for modern cutting edge games so it can only be used in certain scenarios
Real raytracing is fucking good. RTX is baaaad. Hyperreflective surfaces with a bunch of rendering tricks fucking suck. No wonder why most people think RTX is a gimmick (well, except the ""reviewers"" on nvidia payroll)
RTX is great in games that actually support it well. I've never seen anyone not manage to say a single correct thing before.
That's on the implementation. Open any UE4 map in 4.25 and it's not hyper reflective by default.
No
it's a joke
I don't get it.
Well, realistic lights and reflections is what makes ray tracing special.
You just verbalized what everyone with a brain is aware of. People who bought any RTX got scammed big time.
Ah, yes, also transparency.
What would make it special, if you didn't have to gimp it so bad you need to empty a bucket of water onto every floor to even notice it's on in order to make it run on a fucking 2060.
RTX != real-time raytracing != raytracing
Raytracing is great, just buy a supercomputer for a few months and you get some really nice video. Real-time is the (pretty far) future. RTX is abject shit not even worth turning on if you got conned into buying a card for it.
Illiterate cope: the post
Wow, real impressive, bounce lighting that was done eight years ago on the PS3. I will now buy a $3,000 GPU.
>You do know ray tracing is a fad, right?
Real time raytracing is literally the endgame for realistic graphics.
Really? What game? Genuine question.
>raytracing is literally the endgame
And we are not in the end times.
bouncer
I mean a real game that actually exists though, I'm really interested.
You’re an idiot.
t. Actual professional who works with this stuff every day
the reddit meme really sells it
>le reddit
Not an argument. You literally don’t even know what ray tracing is.
Ooh, Zig Forums eceleb catchphrases now. Fancy. I was being sincere. I can see you trying to get into game development.
