FFX felt antithesis to everything the series was about. They turned the series into a fucking movie, removed all the freedom of exploration for a series of corridors, made every character functionally the same and the great writing was replaced with cringe dialogue. You can remove half of the cast in FFX and there would be absolutely no difference.

Im playin it too for the first time. Im at the final boss.
Story started really slow and its not really that original now at the end, but it does its job and there some pretty cool moments. The party is completely bland. Balthier and Fran being the only good members. Villains are kino.

you forgot they removed dungeons too. Imagine removing dungeons in a RPG

The writing has always been bad. Go back to older games and speak the dialog out loud if you don’t believe me. Final fantasy is all about atmosphere largely inspired by amazing soundtracks and aesthetics

i replayed Zodiac age fully this year, weapons in general are freaking overpowered, specially late game, black magic is barely useful aside from some gimmicks, each job license board should've been more restrictive on the licenses, specially equipment. Quickening are barely useful, Esper have barely any point in being summoned aside from the Trial 100 Zeromus gimmick
Bosses in general are probably the most dissapointing factor in the entire game, aside from Espers and superbosses fights
it's still a decent game though, but the game really stagnates after Tomb of Raithwall and doesn't really adds up in story

Because it requires patience before it really takes off. A bunch of Final Fantasy games need you to invest a little bit before they go from boring to amazing or from good to better.
I'd say this is the case with

I feel this way about FFXII. Yeah some are melee, some are magical, whatever, but they all feel the same because of the gambit system. I think a large explorable world like in FFXII with a more defined job system like FFT (or even FFIII) would be the perfect FF.
