damn I hope we get some underwater horror games soon, this and Soma had the right idea

the game feels empty, pointless and scary. i dont understand how anybody enjoys this.

It's the most focused out of all survival meme games, and the water setting works great until the endgame.

the sad thing is I was more scared of the normal leviathan than the ghost, it just didnt have the same scare factor. I feel like they will do well with the shadow levithan when below zero finally is finished

>scared
Honestly the anticipation of anything in that game is scarier than any of the actual shit you do end up encountering, which just ends up being disappointing because you're expecting a leviathan and you get a monster hunter tier sized fish.

survival? you can survive easily from the start. even some shit like modded skyblock on hard difficulty is more survival than this. this game is more about exploration, building and unlocking new stuff and i barely played it.

There are 2 leviathans in this screenshot

>i barely played it
yeah no shit

Not him but what the fuck are you even talking about? The survival in this game is basically an afterthought, you could sit in one spot and survive indefinitely if you just do a quick dive for food and water materials every 10 minutes or so. Finished the game btw

how long until below zero is done

You play on survival mode barh?

No, just mentioned food and water runs because I was making conversation. Of course I did, why would you even ask that?

sorry, I meant Hardcore mode, so many games swap around difficulty names & haven't played in a while.

Hardcore mode is the only mode I've played and the fear of death is quite real, without losing it all on death and starting over, I think playing on survival would be relatively boring fast

Isn't the only difference in hardcore that you get one life? That doesn't really make a difference because I never died of hunger or thirst anyway.

Where is the second one? I NEED TO KNOW

So what's beyond the edges? I never went too far into it.

Game monsters are not scary. The only thing is scary about this game is ocean itself but it just because i have thalasaphobia or whatever it's called. Scared of being in the middle of water without the ability to see the bottom.

It also removes food/water/oxygen warnings from the PDA but yeah literally the only difference is that you get only 1 life in a game where avoiding death is quite easy.

the point to a survival game isn't to just scrounge for scraps you brainlet, your supposed to beat the game WHILE surviving

Just empty space and infinitely spawning sea dragons. It's pretty underwhelming.

Nothing. Just a bunch of those translucent leviathans to dissuade you from venturing far from the map.

It's just dark and after a while gigantic adult Ghost Leviathans start spawning to scare you off.

I don't know what you even think your point is, one of those posts you replied to is me and I didn't even say that's NOT the point, I just said the survival aspect is kind of an afterthought, which seems to literally be what you're saying.

Shit, I meant ghosts. Whatever.

I still can’t understand how the this game is scary to people, everything is bright and colorful, even way down below in the caves, plus the fish are cartoony looking.
Like how much of a fucking pussy do you have to be to find this scary, this game was comfy af.

The sound design did a great job of creating a tense atmosphere.
Seriously the sound made this game. Of course, the sound designer was later fired for wrongthink on Twitter.

You really never died to anything besides hunger or thirst? Shit, I drowned so many times overextending myself scanning shit early on, got blown up by the sulfur fish in the caves, electrocuted by jellies accidentally touching them & drowning, lost my sub to leviathan and my life after first getting it.

I wouldn't even know what killed me and just get attacked by some fucking huge monster from behind sometimes

Different strokes for different folks, but slowly whittling away, finding upgrades, dying and knowing more and improving my play style was seriously rewarding, and I think just playing on survival as opposed to hardcore takes away from the experience vastly, just my 2 cents

>You really never died to anything besides hunger or thirst?
Is there some kind of microwave just cooking everyone's brain on this planet right now? How is no one on this board able to read?

Hey, at least the game spells it out for you right after crashlanding.

Castlevania isn't a survival game because medusa bumps you into a pit. Survival implies persistent resource drain that needs strategic maintenance. There is no strategy in Subnautica, because you can go out and stab some fish whenever you need a refill.

What kind of literal faggot do you have to be to be scared of water?
>AHHHH GIANT SQUID NOOOOO HELP MEE AHH!!!!

ay calm the fuck down yo, it's easy to misread when all you're doing is reading words and typing.

So what killed you in this game, Neptune o' master of the sea

Honestly aside from early game where I got killed by something between the pod and the shipwreck, nothing. It's not like it's particularly unforgiving.

Why wouldnt you be? You're in their element. You'd be torn to shreds in seconds.

Not true

That is still maintenance to survive even if it takes almost no effort to get

I stand by Hardcore being the only good way to play this game, otherwise I agree it would be trash, and playing on only survival is turbo-puss

I just really liked having a survival style game on a set, designed map with an actual story rather that the procedurally generated sandbox we usually get.
Sure it kills replayablity a bit but with that kind of game repeat playthroughs are usually made less fun by meta knowldege.

Also really liked that full autismo base building is completely optional.
.

Not strategic maintenance, see Don't Starve.

So how's the addon or something they made?

>Sure it kills replayablity a bit
There is no replayability, which is a real shame because I bet it's amazing playing for the first time in VR
>below zero has no intention of adding VR

i have a big fear of the ocean and more broadly, dark endless voids. I can usually get over it in space games because of the notion that I am in an incredible, futuristic space ship. For some reason I can't do the same with Subnautica. The ocean is just a dealbreaker for me.
