I have never played Final Fantasy 14 before

I have never played Final Fantasy 14 before.
Should I try it or is it too late now?

I haven't played in forever but if it's still the same it'll take you a long time to catch up to current content

Not at all. In fact, XIV will probably be around for decades. New MMOs just are too risky a thing to make these days.

The first two expansions are free to play with some minor restrictions that dont affect your ability to enjoy the story/gameplay. Now is as good a time to see if you like it as ever. Dont make a character on Crystal if you end up liking it or you'll be coming back here begging people to do content with.

>too late
oh it's never too late!
too late to play a game with an extremely awful story
>well I'll just rush through it
you can't, you will walk from A to B a million times for retarded shit
then you'll think to yourself "ah I finally managed the base game, now the first expac which is good!"
and you'll find again in a terrible story with a lot of retarded walking
holy shit it never ends
the game isn't difficult, maybe only when you spend 4938754983759283459823495 hours and you can reach the ultimate trials
the community is also one of the worst communities I've found
lots of autistic retards and fetish-forcing homosexuals
skills are fun tho and dressing your character too, but still, I wouldn't play a MMO, and if you really want to play an MMO, just go for Ultima Online or RO

don't
shit game

Way too late. 1.0 is dead and gone, and it's all been downhill since then.

XIV is more or less f2p up through the whole first expansion. So you can decide for yourself without losing anything but time.

There's a free trial that takes you up to the first expansion just literally try it for free.

A couple months ago they expanded the free trial to include a fuckload of content, so no real reason not to try it out at least
Just know that A Realm Reborn is pretty fucking slow as it mostly acts as a world building point that other expansions use to flesh out

>wanting to play a game with F2P tier patches while demanding a monthly sub
Asking if XIV is fun is like asking if WoW is fun. The only answer you should get is MMOs are retarded.

>New MMOs just are too risky a thing to make these days.
then why are so many studios making them? big budget ones too like New World.

WoW is fun unless you're shit at the game.

XIV never gets fun because no matter how good you get the netcode and wooden controls will still be dogshit.

FFlogs catgirl avatar says play Shadowlands!

Because Amazon are fucking idiots that want to make low effort WoW money

>low effort
are you retarded? the budget is fucking massive

Shit meant for

just play it for 100 hours to enjoy a few hours of good content bro

It's amazon. They have money to burn. Also, that's one developer.

>It's amazon. They have money to burn
yes, money to burn on paying employees to make their game, which quite specifically means more effort is being put into it.

user the fact it looks as shit as it does despite having an absurd budget does not say good things about the effort put into it

that's not how it works. working hard on something doesn't magically make the thing you worked hard on good. that's like a logical leap a child would make.

It's fine. Maybe try and get a friend to play with you.

Yeah but a passionate team of highly skilled people putting their heart and souls into their work with ample budget generally doesn't shit out a soulless turd

playing with friends with the MSQ is a really awful experience compared to other mmos. you're swamped with longwinded cutscenes that force you to stop playing the game, and you're forced into "events" that defacto kick you out of your group.

it does often, actually. look no further than Dream Theater.

>a passionate team of highly skilled people putting their heart and souls into their work with ample budget generally doesn't shit out a soulless turd
I remember when I was this naive.

final fantasy is a single player experience anyway

>return to the waking sands

Attached: 1602976447849.jpg (501x455, 43.19K)

then why is it an mmo?

It's free through the first expansion and it doesn't make old content irrelevant like wow. It'd say the majority of players aren't even in shadowbringer yet.

it's fun for a few hundred hours, the early and midgame are legitimately good, but the endgame is trash

spin off

>main series entry
>a spinoff
lol?

>then why is it an mmo?
because Zig Forums likes to be contrarian and argue semantics

>vanilla realm reborn
>damage circle shows up
>dragoon jump out of circle right as it disappears
>2 seconds later eat shit from the big aoe attack that is nowhere near me
did they ever fix this

no sadly dragoons are still in the game

Never too late, and it's a lot of fun.

no, the netcode is still horrible, and combat still only works in extremely scripted and rigid contexts.

Was fixed years ago

You still have to be out of the circle before the cast ends, but it's not anywhere near as egregious as it was in the ARR days

final fantasy being primarily a single player experience holds true in 11 and 14 too

>all that pop-in
Why won't they let better PCs load more in? Fucking immersion breaking.

pictured: 300 people participating in the system that permanently ruined crafting by making it take less than a day to max everything

>final fantasy being primarily a single player experience holds true in 11
lol no

No, Jump doesn't avoid attacks during the animation and most damage is locked in as soon as the enemy's cast bar ends, not when the attack looks like it happens

Because SE is obsessed with having a lag free game for some stupid reason
How the fuck did it "ruin" crafting?

wasted potential: the game
