I liked the idea behind his and Snow's arc. As with everything in XIII, said idea crashed and burned. One of the very few things I liked about XIII-2 was grown up Hope and I don't think I would've even cares if they tried to go the romance route with him and Lightning. Don't remember why they made him a shota again in the third game but it was probably due to irl fujos.

The explanation in the game is literally that Lightning is simply a shotacon.
God reverted him to a shota because, and this is official explanation from the game, Lightning liked him that form the most and would be easiest to manipulate that way.

Personally I liked most of the FF13 summons, with the exception of Vanilles which is kinda lame. I thought Shiva and Bahamut were cool too. Pic related is probably ny favorite after Alexander desu. FFX still has the best eidolon/aeon designs in the series though.
