How could Fallout New Vegas compete?
I don't remember many people singing Fallout 3's praises on it's tenth year anniversary.
You mean people on this board
by doing everything else better
The only place that matters.
People on this board don't have a creative bone in their body. They don't understand aesthetics they are just autistic.
by having a well written story and set of dialogue
The New Vegas intro is better
Realtalk, I played FO3 and NV once and found them equally forgettable, but seeing the latter on so many 3x3s has tricked me into thinking it's "better" somehow
idk man if you just view them as similar with engine problems and whatever at the end of the day NV still has a better setting, more coherent story especially regarding factions, and better writing.
New Vegas is an empty desert while Fallout 3 is an abandoned city. The aesthetics in Fallout 3 are more way more kino. New Vegas just looks how the desert normally looks
The setting includes lore aspects which in fallout 3 are retarded
>enclave and brotherhood involvement because ????
>generic good vs bad decision making
>bombed out city shows no signs of significant recovery despite the date
Yeah a city is more cool to look given the factors above it doesnt have a lot of weight to it. The most developed areas in 3 are as empty as the strip
What are some recommended/necessary New Vegas mods? Looking for ones that affect the world specifically.
Always found the western/cowboy/orange-tinted aesthetics of NV kind of obnoxious, like it was trying to be both a post-apoc game and something else on top of that but failing at both. Also couldn't take Caesar's Legion or any conflict involving them seriously due to how goofy it was. Not that Super Mutants or the Enclave made that much sense either but at least it fit more thematically in FO3
idk, it probably would've been appreciated much more to anyone who played the first two games
i guess on the surface level it is goofy but at least there some ideological and moral ambiguity to the game instead of it being le evil vs le good.
I enjoyed the western theme a lot but it does fit my taste so I guess it might not hold up for everyone. Although in a rebuilt apocalypse scenario which the games are supposed to reflect it makes more sense for the theme to reflect the wild west than whatever fallout 3 was trying to do given the dates between the bombing and the stories.
>Fallout 3 and New Vegas
oh boy! turd fight!
Get some taste, if this is what you parade around as "good rpgs" you've only been eating shit
Again this is my point that you guys are autistic stemlord brains who don't really care about aesthetics which should be the most important part. At least you are honest enough to admit an empty desert is the not the coolest setting for an apocalypse game.
>Guy who plays rpg games where he is viewing everything in sky bird
>better written story
>better written companions
I think fallout should try to add modern music that would fit with it setting. I think K-rose the gta sa radio would have sounded great in new vegas.
I don't even remember a single compaion from fallout 3 besides fawkes
>Although in a rebuilt apocalypse scenario which the games are supposed to reflect it makes more sense for the theme to reflect the wild west than whatever fallout 3 was trying to do given the dates between the bombing and the stories
Unironically turn your brain off and pretend the bombs fell 20 years ago, it ended up being much more enjoyable that way. No need to worry about why every settlement looks like a shantytown, why society seems to have made fuckall progression, why dialect and slang are still the same, etc
>aesthetics which should be the most important part.
Imagine letting marketing inform your opinion.
What 'aesthetics' are missing from nv? The setting for these newer fallout games is like hundreds of years after the bombs fell. Anyways i disagree with muh aesthetics because its an rpg.
Still doesn't make it any less retarded which is seriously detrimental to an rpg especially if you go back and play the old games.
The problem is the world of fallout isn't OUR world. The divergence point was in the post war where everyone fucking loved atomic energy.
>New Vegas is an empty desert while Fallout 3 is a series of underground tubes
Desert is not an aesthetically pleasing setting for a game. Especially since a game set in the same place without an apocalypse would look literally the same.
A game in las vegas would have scrap metal huts and other shit? Basically every major town in 3 is the same shit besides the sprawling city which has almost nothing to do in it besides kill mutants and a few landmarks.
Playing in collapse of a major city vs in an empty desert that literally looks the same. Which is more kino
This shit literally looks like this right now in real life and this is the most of the game. Are you seriously trying to argue that this would be a better setting than a major city.
Most of your time was spent traversing the endless subway and sewer tunnels. DC was literally cut into a dozen pieces, far worse than New Vegas is criticized for. Loading screens everywhere.
>kino
Try using big boy words if you expect people to take you seriously.
>Still doesn't make it any less retarded which is seriously detrimental to an rpg especially if you go back and play the old games
Eh, all I cared about was leveling up and getting better gear so I could kill things faster, and it was enjoyable in that regard. Plus I went into the series knowing nothing about Fallout except that it was a post-apocalyptic shooter with 1950s aesthetics. So while fans of the series or real gamers were put off by it, a lot of others weren't.
Sounds kino
Dude i don't know what you're trying to pull here. 3 has plenty of random empty areas too, most gameplay for that game doesn't even take place within the proper city of DC. Its in barren landscape or suburban ruins. All the settlements are as built up as those in NV.
I'm not saying 3 was like an unejoyable game or whatever but if you play an rpg game a story is pretty important and it didnt really have a good one. NV and 3 have basically the same gameplay only the former has a better story.
2/3rds of 3 is a desert with office buildings. And traveling into D.C. for the first time was more fun than actually being there once you realize that it's just a giant Super Mutant colony with no settlements.
Fallout 3 and New Vegas built their worlds for entirely different purposes. 3 is a themepark, New Vegas is telling a story.
Deserts are bland settings in general though, and I hope they never go back to it.
>Deserts are bland settings in general though, and I hope they never go back to it.
Thanks for admitting it. The amount of cope that these stemlord brains have they actually think an empty desert is preferable to an apocalypse NYC
>but if you play an rpg game a story is pretty important
But Dark Souls had a barebones story and was still pretty good
What the actual fuck does that have to do with the price of tea in china?
Ok i guess a dialogue intense story driven rpg or a game from a series with the precedent of such a thing. Even then the dark souls games tend to have decent world building with the context of their story.
