movement is relatively slow in mario games, with a more floaty/slippery feel. Levels with split routes and longer paths would take far too long to play through, missing the short 2-minute bursts of obstacle courses that they're designed to be. If you play a lot of (good) mario maker courses, it becomes obvious how any levels longer than 2 minutes just feel like a chore even when they're impeccably designed.
