the problem was that sly cooper wasn't nearly as monetized or promoted like Ratchet and Clank were.
part of that can come down to the length of the games as well as their varying quality and carry-over.
Sly 1 is a lot different than Sly 2 and 3..
3 was kind of unstable and would overheat my PS2 Slim..
Sly 3 also kind of had a bit of an ADHD direction problem...

really the problem is they blew their load with Sly 1 and then Sly 2.. reviving Clockwerk a 3rd (or 4th?) time would be kind of hard to justify.

To me the biggest sin that wrecked Sly Cooper is giving it an ending. That is one of the worst things you do unless you're absolutely sure the series is over like say Nintendo's Earthbound. This automatically destroys interest in new games. Fans see a new game announcement and they'll say "Why? We got our ending."

I don't know Sly Cooper is such a messy affair nowadays. It's not even worth it. It's not like Banjo which left itself open for more adventures. Sly Cooper also basically explored all important global locations so there's not much else to do. And do any of you actually trust anyone at Sony right now to do a reboot? I don't. Now with those SJWs who will look at Carmelita and they'll say "Cut off her breasts!" and probably make her Mary Suish like Rey from Disney Star Wars and it's a messy situation. wish they would've continued in the sly 1 direction rather than abandoning it for hub-based missions. the play was making the linear levels more elaborate, not abandoning them completely. though i understand something like sly 2 is probably more interesting to work on than iterating on the linear levels.

Yes indeed, we all know that the reason Sly and Carmelita's romance doesn't collapse is because of bad writing. Shit man, such a terrible pairing stitched together by so much dodgy writing that makes Tetsuya Nomura and Hideo Kojima's writing and storytelling seem good.

This is why I like the game Super Lucky's Tale that's what it does. Shame the game flopped. It was much too easy, but it was similar to Sly Cooper's first game as far as level design went. The only other alternative is Mario 3D Land/World.

they needed to come up with a plot for Sly 4 after the nice bow of Sly 3..

much like Sly 3 needed to create a plot involving the cooper Family vault. in order to justify it's existence.

They should've fully revived clockwerk (not Clockla, or Arpeggio) at the end of 2 if they wanted to make more sequels.. but they didn't seem to want to create any cliffhangers or loose threads.

You can get away with "the bad guy isn't REALLY dead" like once, and clockwerk being a "big bad" immortal machine-owl-thing that hates Cooper's family so fucking much.

Honestly they should've just come up with a game for Carmelita; "Interpol Adventures" or something.. had it be a shooter/detective adventure game... the entire plot being an eternally thirsty fox taking her sexual frustration out on international criminals by shooting them with her Taser-gun, while occasionally doing some detective work and piecing together clues... or Just a game where you play as just one of Sly's Ancestors as he reads from the Theivius Raccoonus... like a game entirely set in the wild west, or a game entirely set in early 20th century Britain or New York or whatever. the differences in gameplay being lampshaded with 4th wall-dialogue like:

the key would be to "branch" the IP's away from Sly himself and create a wider world.
