Why not go all the way and just pirate it? Accomplishes the same thing but for free. The GOG versions of games are easier to pirate too because there's no DRM.

Scene releases of steam and epic games also have zero malware and you can even check the hash if you are paranoid.
If anything it's actually way less secure since there's no scene group that releases GOG games, which are only found on scetchy as fuck sites with no way to check for authenticity.

You're right about the scene releases but with GOG, all the files are already verified and you really can't add or edit them. Also there are two places that release and update GOG games consistently. They're pretty decent and nothing has gone wrong, I just hope they last for more than a year once I inevitably pirate Cyberpunk and see if it's actually good once all the DLCs and bugs ironed out.
I only buy Steam if there's no GOG version.
