Christ, this reminds me of a conversation two faggots in the FC I was in were having one day that I logged in during the middle of. Just a back and forth that it was bullshit you had to stay subbed to keep your house from disappearing, until one of them said something along the lines of "your time isn't valuable" or some shit. Then the other """guy""" got triggered, somehow twisted that statement into an avocation for supporting rape, and used that as an excuse to have him kicked from the FC. I wish I was making this up because it sounds exactly like a joke, but I was unfortunate enough to witness it play out.

Nah, fuck off. Heavensward's story is tight and, although not story, character writing in Heavensward and Shadowbringers is top notch.

people kept telling me it gets good after ARR, but it really only got marginally better than dogshit. shadowbringers and heavensward were okay, but still bogged down with longwinded filler just like the rest of the game.

i feel like the people who praise this game as some life changing story have FFXIV to thank for 90% of the reading they've done as an adult.

No one does, though. Only things you see in extremes and does get annoying is character wanking. Things like UGH EMMET IS SO GOOD or praise for Estinien and Emeric, for example. That said, I really cant come up with vidya villains with as much pressence as Emmet in the last 3 years.

Still, sadly some of FFXIV's plots throughout its expansions are the only real games that have come out in recent years that offer the "90s RPG plot experience", with most other RPGs having devolved into unashamed waifu stuff and over-japanization of its style and dialogue, so maybe that's why people latch onto them so much.

How does ESO have more players than FF14 but the fanbase is completely silent? How does FF14 with barely 1 million players(only 300k in NA) manage to have loud fanboys all over the internet?

I feel it's impossible to watch some streamer without a FF14 faggot begging for his favorite streamer to play his game.

I play both games so I don't really have any stakes in the tribalism. But FF XIV is the one I commit to in the long run because other than maybe the housing system, the game's progression isn't built around truly insane levels of player retention timegating and forced grinds.
In the last few expacs WoW ahs been riddled with these and they just drain all the fun out of the game for me, because as a player I want to play what I want when I want for however long I want.
