I don't care what you choose to do with your life, but aside from "being prideful/wanting attention" what is the purpose of showing off your sexuality/gender as if it means anything?

I'm going to answer this question seriously, which is obviously a mistake given where we are.
When I was in the closet and indenial about being trans I was miserable. I believed a lot of the shit that retards here said, le 42% memes and that trannies were all a bunch of miserable faggots, etc. I was so unhappy being the wrong gender that I let my life fall apart and I never did anything for myself. Why would I? I was trapped in a situation that precluded happiness.
When I decided to transition things started getting better. My mental health drastically improved and I found a tremendous wealth of motivation to go back to school, get a useful degree (computer science, like the stereotype) and work on a career that I love. I make software for Virtual Reality, and I love it.
I embrace the pride thing so that I can help other trans people who are in denial or who think that transitioning won't help understand that it actually makes things better. That's what the body of medical research about trans people says. Zig Forumstards will cite the occasional heavily biased fringe study, but the bedrock of medical research about trans outcomes shows that rates of regret are actually very low and that successful transition leads to happier and healthier people. Here's a collection of that research with summaries:
I have a lot going on in my life other than being trans, but that's still an important part of my identity and it can be a difficult thing sometimes. I want to be a source of positivity for people who are maybe still brainwashed by Zig Forums retards that regurgitate inaccurate data at them and that keeps them indenial.
Now go ahead and insult me and tell me to go back. I guarantee I've been coming to Zig Forums longer than you.

I appreciate the transparent honesty. I'm gay myself so I can kind of relate to the exclusion. However, I never wanted to be apart of that crowd from the moment I came to terms with my sexuality. I never understood why others wanted to wear it like a badge of honor. It doesn't define who I am as a person, personally, and maybe I'm a tad stubborn about my outlook on that. You do you, user. Best of luck.

There are aspects of the community that I don't like. There is a sort of dogma that a lot of trans people regurgitate which isn't quite accurate, and they can be very hostile to anyone who doesn't agree.
I'm a very scientifically minded person, and I'd like to see the trans community steer more towards that direction. Things like psychosomatic periods (trans women thinking that they're experiencing periods despite not being able to menstruate), or misinformation about what a vaginoplasty does are common ideas that people will share without evidence and it will cause some of the more vulnerable people to be misinformed and maybe make bad decisions. There's a lot of encouraging people not to listen to their doctors about hormone dosages and side effects, which can be very harmful.
Most trans people aren't dogmatic maniacs. They didn't choose to be trans, they can't stop themselves from being trans, and being trans does kinda suck in a society that treats us like freaks.
I'd like to see a community focused on a solid basis of research, solidarity and compromise. We need to stop telling people that every cis person who misgenders us is Hitler and acting like it's some horrific trauma. Yes, it sucks when it happens a lot, but you aren't going to undermine your whole culture when you come out so there needs to be some degree of learning to suck it up.
We also need to stop shaming people who want to pass. We act like it doesn't matter how you look, you're valid no matter what, and sure that's a nice sentiment. But I live in the real world, and passing makes your life measurably better. People harass visible trans women more than any other group. People yell at you from cars that you're a faggot, kids snicker at you. When you pass, you just deal with the everyday garden variety sexism that every woman puts up with. It's a massive improvement. We need to stop acting like that's some horrible sentiment. We still have to fit into our society.

I think the hostility is a huge issue the trans community definitely needs to improve on. I understand being called the wrong gender can be hurtful, and as long as it's not on purpose, or a constant form of action from people, it's not the end of the world and you'll live.
The passing I'm not entirely sure how I feel. I can completely come to terms with wanting to look your best as the new you, however I am still a believer that there needs to be a transparency of truth. I don't think someone who is trans should fool someone who is unaware.
I also believe, and this might be insensitive unfortunately, that the trans folk need to learn to 'fit' in to other communities and not stand out like a sore thumb. Like I said, I am gay myself, but you would never know if I was surrounded by people. Maybe this is a personal approach, but screaming, parading around acting like you -are- different is always going to cause conflict with people who do not share the same sentiments.
