They made the wealth ending way too easy to get. I bet most people have way more money than is needed by that point in game and many people might not even have joined a faction either

That's way worse. Best would probably be if the Monolith was real, but they would leave it's origin to player imagination. (human experiment, alien artifact etc.)

I haven't read the book but the true ending reveal was a spit to the movie tbqh
