I only ever played about an hour of the first but I played half of the 2nd game and I honestly didn't care for it much. Just felt very mediocre to me honestly. Maybe its because I played the PS2 version which I've heard is the worst but the level design was what I found bland.

Both 1 and 2 were made by western devs. They were developed by Namco's US division.

For me it's worse because it's more combat-focused despite the combat itself being pretty shallow and monotonous. Not an awful game, but not really worth spending time with either, imo.
