You can gauge the demand by how much scalpers are charging. There's a big difference between ps5 and series x/s resale price. Scalpers loaded up with both only to discover that not as many people want the xbox. I put my ps5 on facebook marketplace as a joke and I had people offering to trade me a series x plus a couple hundred dollars. It's pretty funny.
