Talk me out of this

Talk me out of this.

It's not bad. Gets boring and becomes a job eventually.

the best reason to play it is as a market simulator or a large scale area control game. but those things and everything else are drawn out and tedious. there are better games that dont require that much time investment.

there are better space games out there if you just want to fly, still its not a bad game. If you dont have friends to play with, youre gonna get bored quick

Just play no mans sky instead

It's great if you join a pvp corp. Plenty of pvp corps will teach you the ropes and the basics of how to pvp in EVE. Nothing more fun then joining small gang fleets and bullying hisec carebears.

1. start game
2. look how cool it looks
3. lore is ok and starting out is nice
4. after you fly around a bit a corporation will want you
5. join one only to be pushed into null sec where you spend all the time with people yelling at you to join fleet and press F1
6. Understand you will never own your own space and being a small time PvPer is rare because of "Alliances"
7. Uninstall and just play X series.

For me, it’s “below the asteroids”

reading this hurts my soul

yeah, a "great" experience which requires hours of setup to build a ship and backup funds, join a corp, join a fleet, then you can finally camp a spot for an unknown amount of time until someone appears so you can "shoot" them by clicking their name and your attack buttons. if you do it right, there is no challenge or conflict.

How about if I just mine? Would that be fun if I'm slightly autistic?

Or I could just sit in Jita and trade stonks.

it's pay2win, all the big corps are spending big bucks, though most won't admit it

if you want an mmo for incremental progression, just play OSRS instead, it does that way better

If locking an asteroid and pressing f1 is your thing, go ahead. Mining isnt a good source of income though unless you multibox. Big corps at nullsec will always welcome miners, though some require you to attend to some "strategic ops". That translates into go fight, don't mine or risk getting shot in the head.
I don't recommend this game, but some people do like this kind of games. Contrary to what the other faggot says, more money doesn't translate into a win. Numbers do, so you need people or you'll get very bored.

Is this the one where the devs rolled back some shit because the big players/spenders git fucked from some rng?

>Contrary to what the other faggot says, more money doesn't translate into a win. Numbers do

You just hit the nail on the head. You NEED to milti box to get ISK to pay for PLEX so you dont have to PAY for all the accounts you will need to "Have fun" Also if you are a miner you need to miltibox at least 5 accounts. I knew a guy that had 14 accounts and had 4 accounts he didnt have to pay for because of PLEX. He mined at least 7 hours a day no joke.
I don't know why he did it...
I ended up using a bot because I got sick of grinding isk just so I can have a bit of fun and not feel dead inside.. Just so I can go and PvP in a BC for a bit and not care if it died... In the end the game got to bloated with large corps that hid the fact they also make real cash from EvE. I just got sick of the whole thing..
I did meet good people on there that I now play other games with.

If you want to do whatever you want, you'll need to get in with a big corporation. They'll likely think you're a spy since you're new and won't let you, or they'll make you an indentured servant and have you fly specific ships for them. Likelihood that, if anything happens, you'll lose all your progress. Speaking of progress, it'll take time to train meaningful skills. If you feel like having an ounce of autonomy, you'll be ganked on each and every side wherever you try to breathe. If you play with a few handful of friends, you might be able to play in Low-Sec, but most Low-Sec, Null-Sec and W-Space is already heavily colonized, so good luck on that. People are sociopaths and, when they smell fresh blood, they go on the hunt. Most fun in Eve is talking to people, but it's also the fastest way to put a target on your back. Good game, godawful plagued community.

Every large corporation will have alts who fly suicide ships and, if they see you not paying 110% attention, will go out of their way to divebomb you just to make you angry. It's enjoyable when CODE. doesn't know you exist, otherwise expect 20+ people snownballing into you and then making it their personal life mission to stalk you.

elite dangerous is free right now on the ebin games store

The character progression and market PvP is literally the best in the history of gaming. If you want a game where your character's power scales almost exponentially with the ammount of skilll points you have and your understanding of the gameplay and mechanics then there is no other game like it. Its like Dark Souls or Gothic on steroids and its the biggest draw of the game IMO. Gameplay is very arcadey and might seem boring to some simple minded people. But Eve is not your average space fighting game, its more about preparation and figuring out the best tools for the job and assessing the risks because losses are permanent, than just jumping in head first and pew-pewing like a retard.

But that being said its not worth getting into it at this point. Its way to late and the game is past its prime and there is literally not one of the original devs still employed at CCP and the new people clearly don't have a fucking clue what they're doing. Also, its objectively p2w and all the big alliances use bots to farm and they have basically unlimited funds and CCP doesn't care because they know its what's keeping the game alive so there is this massive divide between the big shots and the average mooks.

examples?

>you need to multibox to make ISK
Only if you're some dipshit who mines, every other ISK making activity can earn you a sub months sub in an afternoon of grinding.

You can download LibreOffice Calc for free if you need to do spreadsheets.

If you do pick it up don't fall into the "If you're new you should mine to make ISK!" trap. Mining is dogshit ISK and is the least fun activity in the entire game and you WILL quit within the first month if you make it your primary activity. Watch a couple videos about scanning and relic/data hacking and enjoy making 30m ISK from a WH relic site in a ship worth less than a mill

Conveniently omitting the fact most corps will have their dedicated systems cleaned out regularly, and you'll need to manage to join them in the first place, and the time you need to train proper skills. Also, >play exactly how the YouTube people tell you to the T or you won't enjoy it

space exploration? no mans sky, elite dangerous, outer wilds, probably others
area control? 4x games
market simulator? eve is close to being the best, but instead you could play other mmos for better other aspects and less time sink
space dogfighting pvp? star wars squadrons or something else
space adventure? mass effect or ur quan masters

Not anymore.

>there are better space games out there if you just want to fly
such as?

is this that game that's fucking gigantic?

Me too. But it's troo.

>7. Uninstall and just play X series.
Except Egosoft went full retard and haven't put out a decent game since X3AP.

I like Elite and No Man's Sky. Elite is
-more serious
-better flight model
-lots of traveling in a straight line
NMS
-more colorful (space is often not black)
-better exploration
-has a story
-crafting

80% of the playerbase is bots. Of the remaining 20%, 15% might as well be bots doing hauling and mining and other braindead shit.
