I honestly fail to find a single thing I enjoyed from D4, though the gameplay itself was fine (except the cam pain HQ, that shit was just annoying to deal with), but other than that huhhhhhhhhhhhh

d4 failed at literally everything, the other games never took themselves too seriously (except maybe d5) but at least they knew when to keep the mood somewhat serious and when to veer towards the stupidity, but this one was a rollercoaster of bad timing and horrible scenarios

I also hated the fact that I couldn't get to play with the DLC characters before finishing the story, because good lord if I had been able to swap out these retards for good old laharl/etna, you can bet I would've done it asap

Is the human world in D4 the only human world that exists? Axel mentioned going to Hades since that's the one directly connected to the human world or something along those lines. Is it just the netherworld that has thousands of different versions?

as far as i can tell theres pretty much an infinite amount of netherworlds so theres probably multiple human worlds and celestias otherwise it would make no sense

I haven't played 3 yet, but I'd say the first game had the most consistent story overall, it was pretty simple, pretty cliche even, but very well made
though I greatly enjoyed 5, been replaying through it now since I just finished 4 last week, it's just that 5 is kind of the opposite of 4, where 4 tried to stick with nonsensical stupidity, 5 took itself very seriously, for both better and worse, if you enjoy shounen anime then you will love d5's story, basically
also 5's story is much, much longer

2 is kind of inbetween, I honestly barely remember anything from 2 other than the loli sister or rozalin's fat tattas, but I remember enjoying the story nonetheless as opposed to 4's, where I felt like I kind of wasted my time with 4's story, so much so that I didn't even feel like bothering with any post game content for this one

There are a number of reasons Disgaea 4 is great, but someone who unironically tries to reduce characters to "lol promises", "lol awooo not gay wolf", is a fucking retard and there's no point in trying to argue with logic or trying to show them how well written the characters are.
Something being popular doesn't mean that it's good, but in a series as niche as Disgaea, D4 is popular because its so good and because its characters resonated with people just as much if not more than D1's, something NIS hasn't been able to recapture with other titles, not even the literal direct D1 sequel.

Axel's character arc in 2 was realizing he didn't want to be a good guy and had more fun fucking with people as a Dark Hero, which is exactly what he does in 4, the only difference is in 2 his actions help Adell while in 4 they hinder Valvatorez.
