In what world would Nintendo ever agree to you using an emulated version of their game. If Nintendo backs down at this point, they're just opening the door to all their games being legally emulated.

They also don't want other companies to support Smash tournaments for any game - be it Ultimate or Melee. I agree Nintendo is in the right for a C&D of that online Melee tournament, but not giving Red Bull or HTC permission to sponsor their own game? True, I never denied that. The battered wife argument really does make sense, and the reason most people in the "Smash community" put up with Nintendo is because of the hope they finally listen. But they don't and clearly have no intention to. I'll say this much. What Nintendo has been doing with regards to Melee and Splatoon has been foolish. Even looking at it from a business perspective, best case or worst case, they would benefit more from ignoring the Melee junk.

The ONLY way I'd even remotely understand it is if they were planning to rerelease Melee with online on Switch. Which we all know will never happen.
