>Randy Pitchford needs no real introduction. He's the co-founder and CEO of Gearbox Software. He's been the face of the game studio for years by this point, and the studio created titles like Borderlands and Battleborn, but it hasn't all been smooth sailing for the company under Pitchford's gaze. Randy tends to get himself into trouble, and he's done so many times over the years. Pitchford's knack for trouble has tarnished the reputation of the company he helms.
>A great example of this can be found in "The Medieval Times Incident." Former general counsel for the company Wade Callender sued the company in 2019, alleging that Randy had left a USB drive at the restaurant that contained sensitive company data and child pornography. On top of this, it was also alleged that there had been a $12 million bonus from parent company Take-Two meant for Borderlands 2 that Randy had instead pocketed. Eventually, both sides agreed to drop the lawsuit, but the issue had already dragged the company partially through the mud by that point. Though the lawsuit was dropped and no formal charges were ever made against Pitchford, many still believe Callender's claim.
>Even the recent Borderlands 3 isn't immune from Pitchford's penchant for getting the company in hot water with fans. During development, it came out that voice actor and well-known voice of Clap-Trap, Dave Eddings, would no longer be voicing the chatty little robot. Pitchford himself took to Twitter to say it was a mutual decision, but things changed when Eddings spoke up, revealing he refused because he wasn't being paid for the performance.
>"I ultimately offered to do it for “free” in exchange for past royalties owed plus an apology for something I’ve never spoken about publicly until now: Randy physically assaulted me in the lobby of the Marriott Marquis at GDC 2017."

>Pitchford's also been involved in controversy with the financial aspect of Gearbox as well. Gearbox pays employees via "profit-sharing," where employees are paid the absolute minimum but receive massive payouts when the game ships and copies are sold. Normally, since Gearbox games sell quite well, this works fine. However, Borderlands 3 was both more expensive to make and apparently sold less than was projected. Gearbox has previously told employees to be prepared to receive a payout in the tune of six figures but realized later that wasn't going to be likely. Pitchford told employees that they were welcome to leave the company if they didn't like this situation.

No one ever mentions Brothers in Arms which was pretty good

This is old hat

And if you read between the lines you can decipher this message as "Randy stole the employees bonuses and claimed it was because the game didn't sell."

Is there anything about the Aliens: Colonial Marines fiasco screwing over WarnerBros or was that memoryholed?
Lincoln Cox
He's an obvious scumbag and sleazy person. You can immediately tell by the way he talks and acts.
Leo Butler
it's pretty dated and janky by today's standards. it definitely set a precedent for garbage shooting mechanics for every gearbox game
Jose Gomez
What amazes me is why can't they get rid of the guy?
Austin Hill
He owns it. It's his company.
Landon Taylor
>Battleborn God damn I remember that.
Connor Nguyen
Because Gearbox is not owned by 2K.
Chase Bailey
>Aliens: Colonial Marines fiasco screwing over WarnerBros Aliens is Fox, now Disney. Dunno about what happened to them in this situation, but SEGA and Gearbox got sued and Randy spun it like it was all SEGA's doing. Despite Randy clearly taking SEGA's money for other projects (Duke, Borderlands 1 AND 2), being the one in charge of making that fake E3 demo and SEGA being forced to just roll with it to not lose any more money. Not to mention false advertising in vidya with bullshots hasn't gotten anyone in much trouble until that game.
His ego is massive. It's always "I own this and that" and putting others down out of obvious jealousy. I honestly believe he shat on mentalists because of the tv-show. Randy is shitty magician after all.
Landon Garcia
I think he means why has no employee ex-sanguinated his ass yet.
Justin Perry
sure he didnt help but the game have been trash tier starting with bl 2 in the end i don't give a fuck if he raped a hundred girls the games are bad
Julian Bell
Massive companies have boards of directors who have a majority share, CEOs can be expelled from companies they've built or be forced to 'step down' all the time if they go against the majority's interests.
Kevin Torres
Known Randy Pitchford was a shady fuck not to be trusted since long ago when he lied about the origins of the Gearbox name and when the journalist actually fact checked and discovered his story wasn't true and subsequently contacted Randy for comment he just said "It's your fault for believing me." That's the way genuine sociopaths think.
Austin Hill
you're a janky faggot
James James
Big thing is if you're making money they ain't gonna do shit to you. Just look at Kotick and crazy salary he's paying to himself, but they're not removing him.
are we literally just posting reddit threads here now

>and CP This is treated like the least important part of the allegation.
Gearox isn't a massive company or even public. Given he's CEO, President and co-founder he's probs the major owner.

BUT BL 3 SOLD 5 MILLION FAKE NEWS

>Gearbox has previously told employees to be prepared to receive a payout in the tune of six figures but realized later that wasn't going to be likely. Pitchford told employees that they were welcome to leave the company if they didn't like this situation. Maybe shouldn't have signed a exclusivity contract with Epic and then took the money for yourself, Randolph.
Owen Howard
Randy has been giving them crap product after crap product that doesn't push units. The disaster that was Aliens Colonial Marines, everything involving Battleborn, and Borderlands 3 not selling as well as they anticipated. He's no Kotick.
Jordan Hernandez
>least important it's an allegation
Robert Mitchell
it’s awesome he lost the usb at a medieval times
Andrew King
>Epic money disapeared it was just a magic trick bro

Didn't it come out it was all bullshit anyway? Randy is a piece of shit to other people but he has been done dirty himself a few times too.

>Bobby Prince, who made the music for games such as Doom and Wolfenstein 3D, also made the music for Duke Nukem 3D and had a royalty deal that said he got one dollar for every sale of the game. When Gearbox acquired the rights and made the 20th Anniversary edition, Prince never saw a single cent off the game and promptly sued the company for unpaid royalties. Prince showed that the electronic files for the music showed the copyright belonging to him. Pitchford said he would take care of the payment, though Gearbox seemed to instead retaliate by suing 3D Realms for not saying the music was included in the sale.
>This is treated like the least important part of the allegation. Randy is a disgusting scumbag and I hate him and what he has done to the industry, but even I don't believe that there was some illegal shit on that USB.
Nicholas Sanchez
>Borderlands sold "shipped" 8 million copies >is a flop kek also fuck those shills on Zig Forums saying that the game was a massive success
Alexander Carter
Because it wasn't CP, it was regular porn. Said lawyer also said that Randy's auditorium in his mansion was used for sex trafficking underaged girls. Much like Randy, and everyone else close to Randy, his lawyer was a thieving scumbag that has no problems just making shit up and burning your reputation to the ground to get what he wants even if it's retarded in anything but the immediate term.
Brody Taylor
*Borderlands 3

>Pitchford said he would take care of the payment, though Gearbox seemed to instead retaliate by suing 3D Realms for not saying the music was included in the sale. This actually isn't all that uncommon in the legal world.
