Are there any video game sequels that take place in an alternate universe?
Same cast, similar circumstances but different scenarios, a different tone and character motivations?

Dead Rising 2 Off the Record
Maybe Majora’s Mask
Never mind that, let us see yet another hallucination of Kaori, it's really important.
Final Fantasy
I'm pretty sure Deltarune fits this description. Final Fantasy and Fire Emblem are somewhat similar, with most of their games taking place in different universes with similar situations and slightly differed details, and while they don't carry cast from game to game, they do tend to carry characterization and archetypes across games.
The Zero Escape series is implied to take place in an alternate version of the world from the Infinity series
Ew. Don't mention that transvestite.
Smash Bros series arguably. All the characters are canonically toys that just have the memories, experiences, etc of the characters they're based on.
Galaxy 2 kinda
Huh, The same mangaka created Family Compo. That's a nice art style. Family Compo was about a 18yo pervert who lived with aunt and uncle who were both transgender.
I always bring that one up whenever normies get worked up about LGBT representation in modern anime. Are his his other works that same comfy, jokey, slice of life?
Legend of Zelda? Also Sonic
Xenoblade Chronicles 2
I want to say Valkyrie Profile? was that right? Each game is a slightly different continuity but with Lenneth and Lezard and possibly Arngrim crossing between them?
every Towelket game
Surprised why no ones mentioned the Yakuza spin-offs.
Persona 2: Eternal Punishment
i'm really surprised this isn't done more often as a cost-cutting measure (you know with reusing old assets and such)
only example that really comes to mind is majora's mask and even that's debatable
You could bring up Stop!! Hibari-kun! too, it's also got a guy pretending to be a girl, although it's the butt of pretty much every joke in the manga/anime. It's also got on screen male/male kisses in an early 80s anime.
Final Fantasy 7 Remake to the letter, except it's not a sequel.
Deltarune.
Some of Zelda games
Holy shit City Hunter thread on Zig Forums? Nice!
Mega Man franchise.
Not direct sequels, but spin-off series, like Legends and BN.
DQXI but without the sequel part.
I love his style so much. Makes me want to learn how to draw.
What's his name? I did this artstyle, reminds me of Sanctuary
Tsukasa Hojo. He was also the teacher who mentored the basketball manga artist who made Slam Dunk. He also does Boomer antics and would hang out with the Hokuto no Ken illustrator Tetsuo Hara and so stuff together like sing, drink, and gamble when Jump doesn't have them act as judges for their international comics festival stuff.
This.
Thank you. Great art, I wish we had more anime in such artstyle.
That's great, anons. Check it out!

BABY I WANT YOUR LOVE
BABY I WANT YOUR LOVE
I always forget the name, but I also describe Hibari to those same normies. And Hourou Musuko.
People really jack them selves of to fujoshi fanservice and call it progressive. You can blow their minds with old anime and The Missing. Pisses me off when they lose interest in actual good (decent, fine) focused representation and act like saints for liking Steingate and 2019 Netflix anime.
Also Xenogears to Xenosaga for the thread question.
Kinda Phantasy Star too, right? in a way?
I'd also like a game with the Fire Emblem kids system but with reincarnation instead.
