ITT: Games that you enjoyed before the internet told you that you were wrong to enjoy them and that they were actually bad.

Pic related. I still enjoy it.

fallout 3

Anything from Paradox. I genuinely love their strategy games, but I'm supposed to hate them because of the amount of *optional* dlc they have.
I don't get it. You're not obliged to buy everything on the menu when you enter a restaurant.

What a shitty food analogy. Restaurant would be a platform (steam). And you buy a dish, or a sandwich with almost no meat, tomatoes and so on.

boomer here: Doom 3, Tomb Raider Angel of Darkness, Streets of SimCity, Simcopter, some obscure pre-Steam indies of varying quality

I respect your choice, user.

I agree user. Then again that was my first Deus Ex.

I played it on the hueg, and loved it. Years later I heard about the hate for it, and saw how almost unanimous it was. I wondered if maybe I had enjoyed something bad, and just didn't notice the bad. Went back and played it maybe a year ago. I can see why it gets some of the hate, but I still enjoyed it for what it is.
Been a Kidneythieves fan ever since I first played it.

Final Fantasy 8, 13

Pic related. I still consider it a solid game.

>you cannot even comprehend the significance of what you have done
>here's a coupon

It got it the worst on PC, because the situation for it truly was bad there for the time it was released, and comparisons to the original were at the height(being no prequels and all)
>ridiculously long load times
>console-ized controls and memory-restricted smaller areas than previous entry
>horribly optimized
>worse designed augments
>universal ammo
>etc
I enjoyed it despite that, and it had some really cool stuff still like bot domination and the kidneythieves for NG Resonance, but a lot of the problems it had get glossed over now from how common consolization became, and the technical problems being complete non-issues on modern hardware.
It came in a really nice clamshell case though.

Didn’t even know people hated that game

>worse designed augments
Actually they function pretty similarly to the original game. There's just 3 less than the original too. Original also had ridiculously long load times at the time.

Agree with the rest though.

The game is still really good, it's just that being the sequel to Deus Ex is a tough act to follow.

Can I talk about the reverse of this?

I hated Morrowind in 2002; everyone else I knew did. And then the internet happened and I found out it was a classic and you're meant to somehow enjoy it. I still feel like it's a trick to this day.

I enjoyed it because I played it on the Xbox and it just played like a big dumb console game. I can see why it's hated, and it literally is the poster child for sequels being dumbed down for consoles.

It was the opposite for me. We all got into modding it like crazy.

by now it's mostly forgotten, but yeah people REE'd pretty hard when it came out. it was mostly fans of the previous two installments who felt that it fell short of their expectations of the series, as many aspects of the gameplay were removed or simplified. I, however, had never played the previous two so for me it was just a fun, pretty fantasy romp with some fairly satisfying hack and slash, shoot 'em, blast 'em action.

So, is this worth picking up on sale or something? I played Deus Ex for the first time like two years ago and thought it was incredible. I didn't even know this sequel existed until just a few months ago. I always assumed HR was the follow up.

same here user

You and all your friends were stupid

Everyone didn't like it enough to talk about it so it flew under the radar, meanwhile the original continues to grow a fanbase.

Final Fantasy 8. It just dared to be a little different than the usual jrpg turn based formula, Jesus, no need to hate it so much.
>WaaHHHaa Junctions wtf? Why can't I just grind like a sweat shop worker to beat this boss? What do you mean with "pay attention to the in-game tutorial"??

This

tomb Raider angel of darkness

Man, those were some nice times
>be a kid, love the first Deus Ex and have played it multiple times
>buy Invisible War close to when it is released, love it as well

Our family didn't even have a proper internet at that time. I just played singleplayer games and RP'd the shit out of them with my own fantasy scenarios, and I loved it.

Resident Evil 4. I was genuinely surprised that there are people out there who hate the game for being too different from its predecessors. Like fuck off, it's a great game.

Burnout Revenge

Pretty sure that's generally hailed as a classic

i actually started a new game on invisible war a couple of weeks ago and i got to the cairo section before i just gave up because of the loading screens. So fucking annoying.

The only issues are bad checkpoint placement and awful final titan vs titan boss fight. Everything else is enjoyable especially if you know how to get unlimited rings to max upgrade everything halfway through the game.

Alpha Protocol.
Even publisher cut it out.
I had loads of fun and replayed it 5 times.
IW and Fallout3 are still dogshit.

Play it expecting it to be stupid and you'll really enjoy it. If you play it expecting it to be a respectful sequel to Deus Ex you won't. Most of the people who enjoyed it, myself included, enjoyed it because they played it before the original, hence the lack of bias, so looking back I can say for certain that I enjoyed it because it was dumb fun. Also Cairo is great.

This is top 3 GameCube games imo.

HR and MD are prequels
IW is actual garbage that people only like because of nostalgia

devil may cry 2

Not really a mainstream opinion, but I had a friend in my classroom who got a GameCube just for Resident Evil Remake and 0, then sold everything shortly after 4. He really hated the new style, the story split in chapters etc.

I now know the whole story behind this game, but I still think it's a good game. Suda didn't even direct it in the end, so comparing it to his other games is frankly unfair (also because Suda directed his own share of junk).

It me.

Definitely worth picking up, it's only 6.99 on Steam.
Not a masterpiece like the first, but arguably more of a "Deus Ex" game in the spirit of the original than HR or MD, which are much better games overall.

TASTE MY BIG BONER

I love this game. I want Garcia to come back

Transistor. something something sjw

One thing to keep in mind is the steam version won't run properly on 4k monitors, there's a widescreen utility that's supposed to fix the issue but it doesn't. 1080p monitors are fine, however.

I adored this game as a kid and was kind of shocked and hurt to find out everyone hated it once I discovered online reviews.

Perfect dark 0
Love my p90

It sucks how hard this game was cucked, if it got a source port the game would probably be played more widely, and that isn't just because it would open the floodgate to mods.

I don't think you comprehend the idea of popular opinion, user.

still one of the most immersive games I've ever played

Attached: Jp-trespasser-cover.png (256x307, 198.86K)

they are just an extremely vocal minority, everyone likes it
I didn't like how the game blueballes you implying that he and paula are in some sort of loop. it almost felt like they wanted to leave it open for a sequel, but it was so depressing, christ

Invisible War is the perfect example of consolitis, it was made for the og Xbox first. Now do the math: limited target hardware + more demanding engine + wanting screenshots to look pretty + rushed development = some tiny ass environments. And of course, the whole interface was clearly designed for gamepads, and mechanics were simplified. Also the PC version is very buggy, even with the "Visible Upgrade" patch it can be tricky to make it work on a modern system.

Yeah but is it black ops????? I thought not

Carnivores

to follow up on this...

Attached: GottaFindTriss.png.jpg (1920x1080, 329.8K)

The devs for this game fucked up non-stop, it's understandable that it reviewed poorly considering expectations, and the fact that they cut like half the games content.
youtube.com/watch?v=A-DhgwOmuLc
If I were given the chance to I would remake this game and give it justice.

Nah, Paradox games are awful but addictive. EU4 is one of the worst strategy games I've ever played and I have hundreds of hours in it

>enhanced edition
That's the good one, no? The original release by Atari was a buggy, censored mess.
