No, it always knew it was cheesy and leaned into it, but it still holds the idea of a badass individual guy as unironically good, the military and government are retards and incapable, the cops are pigs, but this is to show how powerful Duke is. It's absolutely anti-establishment, hence a lot of the jokes being in knowingly bad taste or juvenile. Duke is an ubermensch in a world that's inferior to him to enhance the power fantasy, and fits in with the whole 90s rebelliousness. Calling it sjw ignores the game's context and the cultural context it was released in, showing you to be a short memory having sped.

Nah. Blood is more fun thematically and the first 4 level are good but then you end up in boring canyons and copy-paste ruins. It's not until later chapters where you get 1-2 good levels per chapter.

Duke may not peak as high as Blood but the average Duke level is better than the average Blood one. But the really good Blood levels are waaaay better than the really good Duke ones. It just gets dragged down by the canyons and ruins and boring temples.
