MGS2 by far, MGS3 aged like milk and has no replay value. The story is also bland and you won't remember anything about it other than the ending & torture room reveal

Childhood is when you idolize Snake Eater, adulthood is when you idolize Sons of Liberty (or 1+2). People pretend to like 3 because it's a spy thriller flick, Snake's autism, muh Boss and the tearjerky ending, but I think it was kind of cheap. 2 involves the squad of villains more into the plot, the themes and ideas aged pretty well, and provided a nice closure to things.

From a technical standpoint they're both amazing. 2 advanced more within the industry for its time but 3 had some incredible features as well that pushed things. I'd say 2 was probably the better game for predicting so much related to the control of information/media/propaganda though.

Either way, wisdom is when you recognize MGS1 deserves the top place in the series for being the most groundbreaking one and having the most unique atmosphere and aesthetics, not to mention the story being pretty damn good.
