The worst thing is not even that they say Spanish words for no reason, it's that they do not even bother not sounding like unitedstattians pretending to be Mexican.
Then there's the absolutely AWFUL subtitles in Spanish, which were done by a literal retard who not only DIDN'T simply leave the Spanish words as they are and instead translated them into completely different words, but they also mix Castilian and Mexican slang everywhere, making it seem like some non-native translated it.
It's disgusting.

I dunno. I live in California and watched hundreds of second gens fail Spanish in highschool because they assumed it was an easy-A but didn't actually know shit. If they can speak it correctly and really understand it, that comes from having their spanish cleaned up by their community from 1st gens and natives. According to one of my coworkers, it's becoming a bigger problem over the last few decades, so she's making her kids speak/read/write only Spanish in their home, while permitting only English outside it.

Then those cases showcase that they do not have strong familiar ties. One of your coworkers had to step in to fix their lacking knowledge by active enforcement because she failed to organically teach basic phonetics.
None of the words spoken by Jackie (or any other character) make use of the "j", "r", "rr", "ll" and "ñ", so even the excuse that he fails with foreign phonetics would not hold any water.
