Underrated as hell and one of the best games on the system. Change my mind.

Overrated and one of the worst games.
I'll never forget the GBA commercial for some reason it's engraved in my memories
There are two types of people in this world user...
How is Rechained? I didn't know it existed until yesterday, but I'm not really into KH.
Simply too complex for you.
Worse than the original. Even more exhausting if youre just coming off KH1 due to the reused assets
as good as the original and with more content
It's fun but is only held together by the fact it was designed for GBA. It's shallow, repetitive, and combat is just packing your strongest cards that form OP sleights and some 0's into your deck. There aren't many challenging fights either.
ReChained is pretty damn shit. for what is supposed to be a remake on the vastly more powerful ps2, it feels pathetic. Thw worlds are more empty then the gba, the enemies AI is takes directly from 1, but not adapted to work with sora's new moveset, the magic has been made almost worthless by nature of now not homing and having faster kh1 ai, the new cards and abilities break the game further then ever before, but hey voiced cutscenes! Skip it
I loved the GBA version as a kid but hate the remake.
The card system and cut down worlds was "fine" with the GBA because of the hardware and software limitations.
There were no excuses keeping these flaws for the PS2 remake. It was basically just a worse KH1 in every single way. Same exact worlds except with cut down stories and worse combat.
The card combat did not translate well into a full 3d world. It made the game stupidly easy even on Proud mode because you can easily dodge many attacks that would have been difficult to block in the GBA version without a card break.
GBA games were full of soul. You had AAA developers making games at a relatively cheap budget compared to nowadays which gave them the freedom to explore new ideas/gameplay, introduce new genres to the west, or even just show off the dev's ability to make super polished 2D games that already exist.
Polished as fuck games
>Castlevnia: COTM / Aria of Sorrow
>Metroid Fusion / Zero Mission
Unique Stories with Great Gameplay
>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
>Mario & Luigi
>Golden Sun
Introduction to the West
>Fire Emblem
New types of gameplay
>Megaman Battle Network
>Legend of Zelda - The Four Swords
>Kingdom Hearts : COM
I played Rechained first and can definitely say that the GBA one is superior.
Also I forgot to add, the GBA was arguably the pioneer to remakes and ports in the game industry as well
>Pokemon Fire Red/Leaf Green
>Kirby Nightmare in Dreamland
>Final Fantasy 1/2/4
>etc
why do some peole hate and some love kh
t. hate it and think its gaye
at this point it's just a lot of nostalgia for the casual fans. the more hardcore ones just like KH2FM because of the combat.
Do people think it's underrated?
Its such a cool combat system and i can't believe square never used it again. It should have become a whole subgenre imo.
I feel the same way about the 358/2 days commercial, I didnt play the game till like a decade later but it stuck with me that whole time
Its fine but both the visuals and tightness of the combat is less good than the original
i feel the same about that kid sneaking into disney and leaking footage of it lol
As a major cocksucking lifetime Kingdom Hearts fag I just hate the level designs. You're going through all the Kingdom Hearts 1 levels you just did but in a shittier version.
Besides that mixing up your cards and trying new attacks was always fun.
Are you taking about the original or the ps2 version? Because I thought the pixel art of the gba version made the environments feel fresh and cool
Vexan can kick your ass if you're not careful. That dumb Blue Shield is annoying if you're playing through it the first time.
It's probably the most insane subgenre you could think of
I mean, this is a "real time card game with RPG elements (and it's Dysney-themed", and yet it actually get pretty intuitive after the second world.
I read that the system was developed because of the limited amount of buttons on the GBA vs. PS2 controller. So it if you wanted Sora to have access to all his attacks from KH1 it was simpler to have him cycle through options (cards) with L and R
Never finished because the combat was a pain the ass. Oh cool you lose cards for combining cards so you fuck yourself before the fights over, how fun.
God, the days of owning a GBA... every birthday and Christmas was the chance to get a brand new game awesome game. Made even better when the SP was made, could finally play at night or in the car.
It is fun tho, you just have to balance comboing with conserving cards, you should save combos for close to the end of a fight
>Final Fantasy Tactics Advance
>Mario & Luigi
>Golden Sun
The GBA had such fuckin golden RPGs
Nevermind that it the the best spritework I have every seen. I remember many games using sprites with a black outline. Which made them looks like a comic book
I just don't like both. It's all right for the first time you experience it I suppose. But after awhile it just wasn't very fun traveling through the worlds. Having to kill heartless over and over till you get the right damn card to open the door. It's definitely repetitive. Love the gameplay tho.
After i Platinum the game I may never touch the game again I think I'd rather be waterboarded.
It was so awesome because the games were cheap enough you could usually convince your parents to buy a bargain bin game, and there was a chance it was gold
Holy crap you unlocked a hidden memory of mine. I searched YouTube and sure enough it’s there! youtu.be
He's talking about the GBA version. I agree about the PS2 version though.
You’re absolutely right OP, the devs really had some original ideas. No wonder they went on to make TWEWY.
I've heard twewy is basically the spiritual successor to this combat system, I really need to check it out
I honestly find the 3D taking a ton of both the charm and smoothness of the combat out of the game.
It's pretty different, I wouldn't call it a successor. It feels unique and definitely takes advantage of the DS' setup and hardware and is generally pretty fun, weird level up mechanics not-withstanding. Make sure you play it on DS/3DS and not the Switch port.
>convince your parents to buy a bargain bin game, and there was a chance it was gold
Don't remember getting any bargain bin, but I got to play some unknown stuff like Pinobee, and Klonoa Empire of Dreams made me a Klonoa fan.
